I bought the missus a Ruger 10/22 last week. It's on the way from Nordic marksman.... Then I bought one for myself. I had a Ruger 10/22 since 1985 and since sold it... a fine rifle and regret selling my first one. lets see how the better half likes her new toy. :d More to follow.

I'm hoping to be doing this soon as well. My wife likes my Remington 597 HB way better than either of the 10/22's we have so that's what I will be looking for. She loves her Rem 700 and the 597 feels the closest to it so I'm not surprised by her choice.

Anything we can do to get the significant others beside us, the easier it is to enjoy the hobby and sport side of this.
 
Nice to hear stories like this~congrats on the new rifle...for both of you! My wife has pretty much zero interest in shooting and while there was a time when I tried to change that...I've since learned that sometimes it's better to let nature take it's course. lol If I tried these days (22 years into our marriage) I suspect she'd have some criticism about my own technique...but at the very least..would comment on my driving on the way to the range, the route I took, etc. Solo range trips for me are just better for our marriage. :)
 
If I bought my wife a rifle for her birthday, it would probably be the last gift that I would ever have to buy her...

..lol. True in my case as well, but if the rifle cost more than $50, it would open another can of worms. I was committed to buying her some Blundstones for her birthday yesterday, so I dragged her up to the mall (a place I positively HATE) so she could try them on/get the size right. She spotted the $220 price (before tax) and said "no way, too expensive". lol They are too expensive for what they are, but I figure one pair of those beats 10 trips to Pay Less a year for shoes that look OK new... but look crappy pretty quick.

Oh well..

Ya same here. Hopefully I can change that down the road, but with 3 little ones and a severe lack of babysitters its basically impossible to take her out shooting right now...

Plus, we don't exchange gifts usually. She wouldn't know where to start with buying me a gun, and I refuse to buy her shoes because with my luck they won't fit...
 
Wow, my wife has gotten quite a few firearms presents from me over the years. A Walther P22 for Christmas one year, a 10/22 in a Boyd's thumbhole was supposed to be another Christmas gift, but she picked it up at the post office and kind of ruined the surprise on that one. I got her a full belt setup for IPSC for mother's day one year, and a stainless 1911 in 9mm with a custom presentation box and a set of grips I made for her birthday another year. She's pretty awesome for the most part, even if she isn't as into guns and shooting as I am. She's even bout a couple of her own guns too.

Turbo, It's fantastic to have a wife such as ours! My wife had no idea about firearms until our second date. I took her to the range and taught her about safety and shooting a Ruger mk II pistol. Now she owns a MkIII 22/45, a SR9mm, a Savage predator .223 and will soon own a Ruger 10/22 on her birthday 25 April. Everyone who has wives who actively shoot with you, Congrats! It makes marriages and relationships so much more gratifying to have a GF or spouse who takes an interest in the shooting sports along with her husband/ BF.

Well, GF sounds better then "the wife"... after close to 15 years, I think I have a pretty good idea of what's coming ;)

A 10/22 would be appropriate for those "no particular occasion" kind of gifts. Like new tires for the motorcycles, a hunting vest or tickets to a show...

Armoredtrooper, you're right. A GF or spouse who takes an interest in the shooting sports, makes life a whole lot easier... that is, until she takes a special liking to one of your gun and calls it "hers".
 
I took my wife with me when I went shopping for a rifle. I had a specific one in mind, let the wife hold it and she said she didn't like it. The salesman completely ignored me and focused on her after that. We ended up walking away with a new rifle for her and I had to wait. Funny thing is, I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
