A peach of a Winchester Model 70 in 270 Win arrived the other day. From the mid 1960's. A push feed beauty. A monte carlo walnut stock with impressed checkering gives a great sight picture with a scope. Factory installed Williams iron sights on the gloss blued 22" barrel. A striking matte black receiver with a jeweled bolt without the cut out slot. A solid bolt handle. Old style aluminum follower on a two piece floorplate. Three position safety. The red W Winchester grip cap. I added Leupold mounts and a VX2. Couldn't wait to shoot it so I grabbed a bunch of cheap factory ammo and hit the smoke-filled range last night. Too bad the factory Remington 150 corelokts went 1.1" as the other three boxes of factory ammo were sub-moa at 100 yards.
Winchester may have built more sought after rifles. But these guns are hard to discredit.

Ruger's and Tikka's have always been my favorite, but lately with the acquisition of three M70's I have been converted. I know have a 300 WM Alaskan, 257 R Featherweight and an iron sighted 30-06, all are superb rifles.
 
Time flies. It just turned 55 years old.

Let there be more sought after rifles. We can snap up these jewels on the (relatively) cheap! Thats a beautiful rifle, and great shooting.

One of these days I gotta find a push feed XTR in 308.
 
Thats a nice rifle, nothing wrong with them push feed versions of the M70 imo. A friend of mine had one chambered in 300WM, it was a bit heavy for my liking but man would it shoot. It often shot ragged hole groups.

Agreed.
I have a 243 m70 varmint made in 1966 as well. I thought I was lucky regarding how accurate is was. But now I think that’s the rule with these early push feeds, rather then the exception.

Nice Lh stainless classic chuck. Hard to find. Even harder with a standard bolt face.

Very nice rifle, Buckmastr. I had a similar one in 300 Win Mag a long time ago.
It was very accurate. And several moose and 2 Elk must have hated it, lol.
The push feed rifles were disdained by many, but they worked well. Dave.
 
Yep. Those who know, know. I have had a few m70s over the years and current have a push feed one. It’s absolutely the most accurate rifle I’ve ever owned and the fit and finish is excellent. Perhaps the best trigger, too.
