The Modern Hunter Rifle UPDATED December 10 2015

Ive never purchased the expensive match ammo. is hand loaded ammo able to still get much tighter than the good match ammo? i always figured it was just cost effective compared to buying the expensive stuff.

Hand loading your own ammo allows you to employ the bullet you want to use for a specif usage as well as to tweak the load to attain best accuracy and minimal ES. In an autoloader it also can allow you to resolve cycling issues.
Like all hobbies if you count your time then the savings are not really there. Reloading can become a very addicting hobby in its own way.

Quick technical question, since it takes DPMS hand guards if I remember correctly, does it require a hand guard to mate with a .150 tang or a .210?

The base model employs a DPMS free float tube that has no provisions for a rail for mounting anything on.
The deck height for those who want to use a rail top hand guard is 1.3125" from center of bore to top of deck.
Most hand guards that will fit the Gen 2 DPMS upper will work.
We have selected a few as options that we KNOW will work properly, in the future as we get more stuff to try for fitment,we may offer more options.

thank you. I was particularly interested in the Midwest Industries DPMS .308 12" MLOK hand guard

I guess that model wouldn't fit due to tang height?

December 10 2014 update.
I have gone through this entire thread cleaning it up and trying to condense it so not as much reading is required. Also on this initial post I have added photos and video of the final product. Firm pricing has been established as has delivery times, for full info please check our website www.albertatacticalrifle.com or contact us directly via email at info@albertatacticalerifle.com
PM's we will not be responding to.

The Initial run of these will be offered with either A2 fixed, CTR collapsible or PRS stocks.
Barrel options for stainless steel barrels will be 18.6",20",22" or 24" in 3 contours. Barrels can be threaded, we just need to know when the order is placed.
We also will be offering Proof Research Carbon Fiber Wrapped barrels in 260,308 and 6.5 Creedmoor in 18.6" and 20" lengths only, these come threaded.
A 4 lb match single stage trigger is the only option.
Fore ends will be JP, DPMS, Fortis or PRI for now. We are sourcing others to ensure that they will fit as well as plan to start to manufacture our own flat top key mod fore end. More info to follow once we receive these.

308 will be the first caliber offered simply as we have 30 cal barrels in stock, but 243, 260, 7mm08 and 338 Federal are not a problem. Only these calibers are offered simply because of the mag and limitations of the bolt face.

Key features .
NON RESTRICTED FRT#146190
Integrated Ambi bolt release
Non reciprocating fold flat charge handle, sealed to prevent gas escape for the shooter.
Ambi safety (optional)
Ambi mag release (optional)
7075 billet upper and lower
Hinged dust cover over ejection port
Left handed friendly shell deflector
Direct gas impingement operating system ( tried and proven to work)
Any AR style grip will fit

True match grade barrels as standard , various lengths, contours and calibers available base on 308 parent cartridge.

Due to the complaints of a few members who feel we are misleading the public and to comply with CGN rules of disclosure, we post the following information.

Please read paragraph 3 as it clearly states the Modern Hunter IS classified as a NON RESTRICTED firearm provided we maintain a "faithful" copy of the prototype, which we have.

We offered a limited production run that will have custom serial numbers at no additional cost for the first 75 guns, these have sold out.

A 1500.00 deposit and submitting a build sheet from our website will get you into the 1st production run.
Delivery of this run will start in Feb 2015
PLEASE NOTE This production run is now sold out. The second production run is slated for July 2015 delivery

So is this your second and final frt report? 100% non restricted for sure? If so il send in my deposit tomorrow

No as we do not have any and frankly I would not recommend steel cased ammo being used in a stainless matchgrade barrel. I would like to think that people spending several thousand dollars on a rifle would be willing to shoot decent quality ammo out of it.
When I mentioned shooting crap ammo maybe should have been more specific. My idea of crap ammo is American Eagle bulk, reloads cranked out on my Dillon 650 and assorted mixed brands of various bullet weights and ammo makes.

It's not just steel cased ammo, it's copper washed steel jackets that get loaded into these cases. The typical copper washing on these rounds is not sufficient to stop the mild steel from contacting the barrel, which is absolute rape on your hardware. If it's a chrome lined 5 moa shooter like an SKS, who cares, but I would never shoot the stuff out of even a Savage Axis, simply because it's stupid. Those rounds are for blasters, hunting rifles can still fire cheap ammo, just not the cheapest. If you're dropping $3k on a hunting rifle, the cheapest I'd run through it is federal or PRVI, that stuff is fine, and only costs like 90 cents a shot. It's kind of silly to buy those 50 dollar boxes of super match hunting ammo, you need a box to sight in properly, then you want to make sure you're buying ammo from the same batch to last a while so you end up walking out with 100 rounds. Just reload the stuff, and if you can't, buy ammo on sale by the case.

Never mind,,. I read more closely, that is your first frt, when do you expect the final? I realize its 99% for sure but im waiting for final frt.

According to ShaunM post they were in the middle of week 5 on nov27th I beleive, so December 22/23 should be the 8 week deadline, it's approahing fast like should be this week, but I guess we will see. I am anxious for any update to either frt approval or more range testing.

Im ok with range report,... atrs is high end as far as im concerned, i just want a 100% guarantee its going to be non restricted before i drop the cash... even though im sure they would refund to everyone.

A post with further updates will follow shortly. Have to get back to the office to get dates and such all figured out.

Will you eventually offer left-hand ejection?
I would take one left-handed in .338federal.
Browning offers that with a custom BAR but I'd really prefer an ATRS rifle.

Why not just make another model with a non match thinner barrel for the average guy that wants to blast off alot of cheap steel cased ammo just plinking or training drills, It would make a better lighter brush and hunting gun anyway, dont care if its 2MOA gun , Not everyone is a precision long range shooter or have the distance near them to do so. Your limiting your market greatly with only having match grade target barrels. If you think people wont pay that much for a plinking gun that shoots cheap ammo your crazy , look how much people spend upgrading m14s, i know many people that run cheap commie ammo through pricey guns like Tavors , Swiss arms and FAMAE. And barrel replacement should be easy on this rifle anyway right?

I would have to assume they want their name on the best product they can produce.
