Savage Arms Company discontinued manufacturing the

original Model 1915 in 1934 , with the aniversary of Joshua Stevens

the issue of the Model 71 Commemorative (1971) came the ''Modern '' Favorites.

This proved to be so popular that they continued with the Model 72 the

next year 1972 and on till 1989 .

Good looking rifle! I had one of the plain grade M72s. It was a decent enough rifle, but certainly did not have the appeal of yours.
There was another company making reproduction Favorites. Darned if I can remember the name at the moment.

Hey oldrodder , there are not many up for sale in Can. , the last

Model 71 Comm. went for $825 tho now I see them

listed on Gunsinternational for $1,000 - $1,200 US .

The Model 72 , 74 and Model 30g (1999) sell

for $400 to $600 CDN.

Actually I'm suprized that Uberti or other re-pop manufacturers haven't

come out with a replica .

Varner is the manufacturer you are thinking of and apparently

they had quite a quality rifle .

Some day I'll add a Steven's Favorite to my collection. One that is not super rusty and has a bore.

I have a Varner favourite replica

The were the finest replica made of the favourite.The came with a match grade barrel

I got to handle a few before I appreciated such rifles. I'd love a .22 WMR but for the prices these days I will never bother.
