The moose rifle selection: 35 Whelen vs. 9.3x62 vs. 375 H&H vs 375 Ruger

My biggest gun used to be .300 wm, but I found it expensive to feed on powder and premium bullets. Bigger than .30 just gets more expensive. I sold my .300 and bought a 9.3x62.
My brass is free(annealed and fireformed .30-06 range brass) and my bullets cost pennies(280 gr cast .368 with a .375 gas check). I hope to get 22/2300 fps out of my 98 husky, which is off getting some work done right now. I can't afford to feed any of the bigger bores on premium bullets and huge powder charges, so I'd rather have something that I can shoot enough to be confident with.

Lol! You beat me to it but it about sums it up right. Doug's posts should come with a disclaimer in his signature!;)

Don't need a disclaimer, thank you, as I never (well almost never) post what powder charges I am using. Agreed, to each his own, but I have also posted photos of the fired case heads with primers still in place and no ejector marks, so what does that tell ya...........I have in fact exceeded 3000 fps with 270s in the 9.3X300 and took it out last spring and killed a huge black bear with it. I have also exceeded 2950 fps with 286 Nosler Parts.........cases still hold primers and no ejector marks there either.
One must keep in mind there are some features of this rifle that were intentionally built for maximum velocity, a long throat and 26" tube help a bunch. Made on a Sako AV so COAL isn't an issue and voila.............

Are you running freebore like a weatherby to up velocity with less pressure? Win brass? Sounds like an interesting cambering. I'm running a custom built 375RUM with a 28.5" barrel haven't run it threw a crony yet.

Not as much as the Wby cartridges but certainly enough so the bullet does not encroach on the powder capacity. I did a quite extensive write up last spring on here if you're interested. Yep all W-W brass......not done with it yet as I have several loads made up with some 270 gn Matrix RBT bonded bullets. However due to my moving I have yet to try them out. Will be reporting on them later, as soon as I have my range and shooting house finished.

imagine what a 375 ultra mag pushed to those pressures would get... and my old 9.3x64 just chugs along at 2600-2650 with a 286gr
but she still flattened
