The Most Accurate .17

Not even close, he (Dave Snow)put ten rounds into essentially the exact same hole at 100 under observed competition conditions. All the rounds were within a few thousandths of an inch center to center. The VQ rifle had a cryoed barrel, custom lapped, molyed, and bedded in a dedicated benchrest stock with a complex damping system that involved separate muzzle, barrel, and receiver mounted tuners.

Thanks. Cool info. :D

A lot of rimfire accuracy depends on the ammo

The best you can expect from the savage even from a machinr rest is to put 10 in about 1/4" CTC. That's more than 100 times bigger than the record group. You cant shoot record .17HMR groups with a bolt gun, no matter how good it is: it shifts too much on the bags when you work the bolt. The VQ rifle had a cryoed barrel, custom lapped, molyed, and bedded in a dedicated benchrest stock with a complex damping system that involved separate muzzle, barrel, and receiver mounted tuners.

Hey reg,

What ammo was Dave Snow using to make this group, by the way what was its measurement? .020", 050", .010"....?
