You really need to get out of that southwest corner....... Driving distance shouldn't limit the true hunter.....
I do,, hunt 42, 47. This area is awesome for turkeys and controlled deer hunts.

I admire that you eat what you shoot, that should be the law as far as I'm concerned regarding any kind of killing...including predators, unless you have a legitimate reason to kill such as preservation of life or livelihood.
2015 cull buck

Superbrad, how many deer are made into those sausage and how many pounds of deer meat is that? I admire that you eat what you shoot, that should be the law as far as I'm concerned regarding any kind of killing...including predators, unless you have a legitimate reason to kill such as preservation of life or livelihood. There are far too many losers that just drive around rural areas blasting coyotes and whatever they want simply because they feel like it.
The 4x4 whitetail I shot this year weighed 205 pounds and yielded 95 pounds of meat...an average deer for Saskatchewan. He was about 120 inches B&C, a typical 3.5 year old that has no trophy potential antler wise but makes a great meat buck by most standards. Nearly a 46% ratio of meat to body mass...about what can be expected in a mature deer. I had to drag him through hilly terrain, 8 inches of snow covered long grass and 1.5 miles to get him out while carrying 20 pounds of gear. Took me 3 hours...so ya I worked pretty hard for him. I will have some pics once photobucket lets me upload and post. Any better pic sharing sites?
My 2015 hunting season in Saskatchewan is as follows, and this year was about tied for the least game I have seen in the last 6 seasons:
15 total hunting trips starting from Sept. 25-Nov 30 including bow, muzzleloader and rifle
2211 km travelled
87 hrs 35 min combined driving + hunting (65 hrs actually in the field)
$221.10 in fuel
Wolverine PFRA 4 trips (where I shot the deer)
Montrose PFRA 1 trip
Asquith PFRA 1 trip
Aberdeen PFRA 1 trip
Ducks Unlimited 1 trip
Fish and Wildlife Development Land 6 trips, once each
Mule Deer: 10 does, 5 fawns, 6 bucks (2 mature 5x5)
White Tail: 10 does, 4 fawns, 7 bucks (2 mature; 5x5 and 4x4 which I shot)
Moose: 2 cows, 4 calfs, 1 mature bull 40 inch spread Elk: 7 cows Ruffed grouse: 5 Sharp tailed grouse: 3 Coyote: 1
Conservation officers: Zero
2015 was a very poor year for upland game and predators from what I have seen from the places I was. As you can tell, I had many opportunities to shoot game, however, mature bucks are what I'm after. I would have liked to see a higher buck to doe ratio and more does with multiple fawns. Almost all the animals I saw this year would have been excellent kill shots had I not passed on them. Do you guys consider that a lot of game? I find those game numbers very poor.
