Maybe someone can help me make sense of this but I would like to know why originally the Czech 7.62x39 was allowed into Canada and sold in the sealed containers. Nice crates containing galvanized soldered metal containers. Luckily I still have a few sealed virgin crates of this! Then it was decided all the containers needed to be opened and each package individually labled with copious warnings in both official languages. I've even got one crate where each stripper clip pair is shrink wrapped & vacumn sealed in plastic again! Then eventually even the nice Czech wooden crates disappeared and were replaced with cardboard cases. Surely not for phytosanitary reasons or why would the Russian and Polish crates now be permissable?
The Russian stuff Le Baron had apparently came in in spam cans but was immediately cracked open & the same silly labeling applied. Crates are a far cry from the Czech ones but at least somewhat cool.
Now it appears the Polish stuff is available (Marstar & other) but the spam cans are now OK again (just like the Czech stuff was originally). Crates seem better than the Russian ones but not as nice as the Czech ones.
The reason I ask is I'd love to get more to sock away for long term storage and it would be nice to have it in the original milsurp spam can & crate. By long term, I'm talking 10 or 20 years or more. I wish my dad had socked away a few sealed crates of 303 Brit! I view 7.62x39 as the 303 Brit of my sons generation. I know 50 cal ammo boxes work and I have done that but it would be nice for my son when I'm long gone to be able to see ammo as it was originally & not after our nanny state regulations monkey with it. Additionally the milsurp crates are great for the man cave coffee tables, wall units, storage etc. Might not be a big deal or even an issue for some but to me it seems like a horrible waste of time energy and expense for basically no gain (actually an historical loss and loss of cool factor too!). So to sum up, someone has to pay to open the crates, open the spam cans, print & apply the labels, then repack and nail the crates ..... guess who? Ultimately it's you & I, the consumer! Then I have to go buy a 50 cal ammo box to put it back into long term storage at yet more expense with the historical & cool factor loss!
Hopefully somewhere, someone with some common sense will realize the insanity of this and we can go back to the way it was (should be).
Rant off!
