My PH wanted nothing to do with my 375 ruger african when i arrived at the lodge. They had numerous bad experiences with the 375 ruger on lots of game, he even offered me his personal 375 h and h. So we got to talking and i asked him why? "Its too fast. The bullets come apart and wound animals." Was this factory ammo i replied, yes it was. So i explained i was handloading a swift 250gr aframe at 2840 and to just let me give it a try. So off to the range and check the zero of the rifle. Two inches high at 100m and a cloverleaf group raised some eyebrows.
The next morning began with a stalk on a huge gemsbok that left us empty handed, but we had seen blue wildebeest lying on the side of a mountain that morning so after lunch we set off to get one. After crawlimg up the side of the mountain for what seemed like forever we finally got above a group of three bulls with one nice bull. I let fly broadside at 100 yards and was rewarded with a loud whack as the bullet hit. The bull went 100 feet and stood as if nothing had happened, i hit him just behind the shoulder. Man these animals are tough. The finishing shot through the shoulders dropped him like a sack. After photos and a mandatory celebratory shot of grand marnier it was off the the skinning shack to find the bullets.

244 and 247 grains. One pulled from the wildebeest and the other from a zebra. In the end i took six animals. From a tiny duiker to a huge water buck. Tiny in and out holes in duiker and impala to lights out performance on the big stuff.
Is it the new king? I dunno. But one hunt at a time it is gaining a fan base.
