The new M14/305

I have a 2012 22" and the main things that stand out:
- the charging handle had an edge so sharp I still have a scar 8 months later
- the op rod guide mounted slightly off center
- barrel slightly over indexed making the iron sights look off, I however also inherited an M1A Springfield and it suffers from the same problem

However I've put a lot of rounds through it and with a scope mounted it's a great rifle. I thought about having the kinks worked out of it but I can't justify spending a bunch of cash on a 400$ rifle.

I had those two issues too. Had to file the edges on the charging handle and Hungry helped me out with the over indexed barrel. No regrets with my rifle though!

My 2012 has a sharpe charging handle as well. I also find that with no mag in and the trigger not cocked, pulling the charging handle back for the first time seems two staged and difficult. After first attempt, rifle cycles a lot smoother. Is this normal or is there an issue with trigger assembly or OP rod.

I see a direct mount brake being sold on eBay from a Canadian. It says its threaded for the Chinese m305.

Yeah, I've sent him a message and he reply to my that this brake is M15X0.75 RH thread which is suppose to be the real M305 MB/FH thread for the latest Norinco M14/M305 but I think they are a little pricee for what it is. But the guy seems to be very cool and helpfull, he gave me plany of info on how to remove my actual FH on my 2012 Norinco M305, that said a good service is priceless.

Cheers!

Keep it clean guys please. My 2007 on the first pull on empty mag is almost as smooth as when its loaded probably after a good number of rounds it will get smoother for you guys. Anyone noticed if the trigger improved between old and new?

I'm no expert and my 2012 is my first but it seams the trigger is horrid, it has a short gritty first stage then it takes a full 8 lbs on my gauge for it to break , the trigger on my sks is better , the rifle is horrid but the trigger is better is there any way to make the m305 trigger about 6lbs and clean ?

Do not do any home trigger jobs....you'll end up with issue.

Toothpaste and an evening of working the trigger will give you a nice first stage and about a 5 lb trigger.

Mine is close to 4 almost to light for a battle rifle.

Sorry, brain fart, that is for the safety.

I dis assembled the trigger group, degreased it all. Smoothed out the pivot points. Regreased it assembled with new Tubs trigger spring.

Greased the sear too.

What's with all this talk of specially threaded muzzle breaks for the Norincos? The chinese guns will take any standard M14 or M1A muzzle brake with no issues whatsoever. The metric threads on the Norinco are almost exactly the same as those on the imperial threaded american M14s.

Isn't "almost exactly" an oximoron?

Its not an oxymoron actually, it has the same sort of precision as a "near miss" or "near certainty". You could use "almost full" in the same way - and that obviously isn't an oxymoron. But if you would prefer, you can substitute it with "approximately", although that kind of removes the indication of just how close they are to being the same. Of course it doesn't change the fact that imperial threaded brakes work fine on Norincos :p
