the new S&W 586

I've got one that I bought last fall. It's pretty nice, but I've never looked at an old one. The fit and finish is pretty nice, and it is at least as accurate as I can shoot. Mine has the red ramp front site, not the fiber optic one. The only other Smith and Wesson I have experience with is my old 66-1, and its at least as nice as that one.

Yes, I have the 2012 SW 586 Classic 6". It is my favorite center fire handgun. Purists complain about the cast hammer and trigger, and internal locking mechanism but I think they need to stop complaining and shoot more.

I joke that it is more of a hand rifle than a handgun, both regarding it's size and accuracy.

It is a large firearm, but extremely accurate for my wife and myself. I shoot .357 and she likes .38 special. I find it well balanced and the full length underlug helps tame the recoil nicely. It isn't picky at all and groups nicely at 20 meters (our range) regardless of ammunition.

I am extremely pleased. I've heard that the Classic series is tuned by the smith and wesson custom shop, but haven't bothered to verify as I am very satisfied with mine.

I paid $850 CAD for mine and cannot recommend it highly enough. You can get a ruger gp100 for less, but my preference is my smith. It works for me and of all my centerfire handguns it's the one I'd keep if I could only keep one.

Thanks for your input, I had a Ruger gp100 and loved it and still wish i didn't sell it as i actually prefer the older grips over the new ones.
I have always loved my dads 686 but the stainless finnish doesn't do much for me. So I ordered the 586 I only hope Im not waiting to long.

Love the 586, I have had 3, a no dash 6", dash1 6" and now have a slightly just over 4.?" barrel re registered as restricted from Prohib no dash 586.

also have a 686
