The video that started it all for me.
First impressions:
-Inexpensive rifle with a plastic stock (no rubber recoil pad) and barrel threads visible in the breach.
-Didn't come with scope bases like the American package mentioned in the video and the retailer’s website.
Two Weaver #46 bases work. The retailer has since updated the description of what comes with the rifle.
-Only one 10 round magazine, again unlike the American package. It is larger and heavier than a 10/22 magazine.
-Initial cleaning was fairly easy with the rear cover removed. But cleaning the chamber and bore with a rod was very tight. The manual mentions removing the stock and trigger group. If this is the design, it is not very convenient.
First range trip:
-Magazine loading was different. There are fins to hold each of the rounds and I had to partially insert a round and push the fin to rotate it back before I could seat each round all the way into the magazine.
-The Accutrigger took some getting used to. A few times I didn't fully release the middle shoe and the trigger didn't reset. I found I had to consciously reset the trigger by exaggerating the trigger release.
-The main range was shut down, so I only got to use a shorter one. I decided to just do a function test, as an accuracy test at 15m with a rifle would be a waste of time. I fired a total of 65 rounds, mostly Federal bulk pack and some Winchester 333. All rounds cycled with no malfunctions.
-The iron sights were on target from the factory.
-No problems with the magazine seating per some of the reviews I've read.
Second range trip:
-Tested a bunch of different ammo for function and 5 shot grouping at 25m. Then selected some of the tighter groups to test out to 50m. All testing was done from a bench with front and rear bags. A Bushnell Rimfire 3-9x32mm scope was installed on the rifle and zeroed at 25m before testing.
Results at 25m measured center to center in inches (millimeters):
Federal bulk pack 7/8" (22mm)
Winchester 333 bulk pack 3/8" (10mm)
CCI Standard Velocity 1/2" (12mm)
Fiocchi Standard Velocity 3/4" (20mm)
Winchester Dynapoint GT 1/2" (12mm)
CCI Blazer (with CCI bullets) 5/16" (8mm)
CCI Blazer (with Federal bullets) 7/8" (23mm)
Remington Thunderdolt 5/8" (16mm)
Winchester Xpert 1 & 1/16"(27mm)
Winchester Dynapoint GT (re-test) 1/4" (6mm)
Winchester Super Speed 1" (25mm)
Winchester 333 bulk pack (re-test) 13/16" (21mm)
CCI Blazer (with CCI bullets re-test) 9/16" (15mm)
Results at 50m measured center to center in inches (millimeters):
Winchester 333 bulk pack 1 & 1/2" (38mm)
CCI Standard Velocity 9/16" (15mm)
CCI Blazer (with CCI bullets) 1 & 9/16" (40mm)
CCI Standard Velocity (re-test) 9/16" (15mm)
Conclusion:
It looks like this A22 likes CCI Standard Velocity. It wasn't the tightest group at 25m, but it was at 50m. Plus it showed some consistency. I re-tested some ammo at 25m to check for consistency, as their 50m performance was abysmal. 100 rounds were dispensed in the second range trip and there were no equipment malfunctions. There was one fail to fire with a Winchester 333 and one with a Remington Thunderdolt. Both rounds were rotated 180 degrees and struck again. With 2 solid firing pin strikes and no ignition, these malfunctions were caused by the ammo. Next I want to test Winchester Dynapoint GT at 50m. I ran out of time and didn't get to it on the second range trip. If it does well, I plan test it and the CCI Standard Velocity at 100m.
