The new SAVAGE "EDGE

Looks like it has a tang safety, but it has one on the side...

It's to bad they couldn't hire a designer with more artistic mettle than a gnat to come up with something nice.

X2. They already have cheap models, you'd think they'd want to improve looks/feel rather than build something even cheaper.

With the name and stock design, it seems like they are trying to appeal to a younger, more modern crowd.

Interesting that there's no magnum calibers available. Could this gun spell the end of the Stevens?

You mean like the Mossberg Nighttrain wreck? :D

From what I have dug up, it is a Tang Safety.......what is the lever on the side for?.....Bolt release?......

This would make a great build for the Bush Carbine that CanAm was maybe going to undertake......just get a special run of 16" barrels, and Bob's your uncle!:dancingbanana:

Thats the bolt release, they've had them there for a long long time.

Just finished putting a Boyds thumbhole on an old 1980's 110 in 7mm-08 and it has it on it, you have to hold the trigger and press on that side lever to get the bolt out.

I'm worried about the new "Edge". Savage has noted they found a way to lower manufacturing costs down by about $46 on each receiver. That last example was the Mossberg Nighttrain wreck, and we all know how that went over...

Thanks, hard to tell from that s**tty pic on their site...

I don't know why they'd even bother. They aren't saving anything if they sell the rifle cheaper than a stevens. They should have just put a better stock on the stevens and left it at that...

Nah, the Mossberg ATR is in a class all on it's own. It would be nice to hear some technical specs on how Savage managed to cost cut on the bolt manufacturing. I'd also wager to say that the stock feels pretty cheap, moreso than the Stevens line even.

FWIW, here's what I could find about it on the WWW

Non-accutrigger. Appearsto be a cast action. RH only. Flat black coating, ( black oxide???). Swept bolt handle. No rear baffle. Centerfeed. Old style barrel nut. Different style tang. Old style tang safety. Standard calibers only, no magnums. Oval loading/ejection port similar to target action. Used normal bolt head/baffle configuration.
