The Next Gen Super Shorty is here!!

Pistol grip makes it a pistol by law, unfortunately.

False! The problem would be the over all length would fall under 26 inches with the pistol grip. One of the Turkish shotguns I own with a 14 inch barrel and that fake raptor bird grip on it is barely over the legal over all length rule.

I had the old version years ago and lost it when my place burned down. Looks like it may be time for a replacement!!!

From my understanding (which is probably wrong), is that because it is a pump-action and was factory made with an overall length less than 26", it does not fall into the restricted category, nor the prohibited, and there is no legislation prescribing it to be either, so therefore is non-restricted by default. But the powers that be don't agree with this loophole and claim a short barreled shotgun with a pistol grip is considered a handgun under Canadian law, meaning it can be operated and reloaded by the use of a single hand (or something similar). And all handguns are considered restricted (and prohibited), so therefore a factory made shorty is a restricted handgun.

The question I have, is what happens if we try to register our shorties, and do they indeed classify them as a handgun or a shotgun?

Yes youre wrong on that, it is a restricted shotgun , not a restricted handgun.

He's right insofar as that's the rationale as to why they consider them restricted. Which makes it even more perplexing when they register them as restricted shotguns especially given they don't meet the definition of such.

A factory shotgun with a pistol grip can be under 26” and still be NR by law. Look at the mares leg rifles. The RCMP say it’s a pistol, or could be. They were undecided and apparently nothing came of it.

Also, thanks CanAm for bringing these short pumps in again, I know a lot of people were asking for more!

Do you have a factory made pistol grip shotgun registered as a pistol ? yes ! then what is it written on the registration certificate ? restricted pistol ? or Restricted shotgun ?

Could you please show me a shotgun ( not talking about the Mares leg) that is under 26" OAL ( from factory ) and not restricted !

Rossi made a single shot shotgun, 23" OAL, with a pistol grip, that was sold as non restricted. This was 8-10 years ago.
