5.45mm. Expensive. Yes, there are many x45s in Canada.
 
.223 AK's are neat - anyone else break a range enclosure light with ejected casings from their's ? I know at least one other guy did the same thing as me, because the range warden said "not again with those things"
 
Ok, correct if I'm wrong, but you're not allowed to legally discharge a prohib weapon in Canada? Are there exceptions?

Member ian_in_vic is probably refering to the times when you could discharge prohibs if you own them legally.
Today Joe Average cannot discharge FA or CA.
However, there are some organizations and businesses which can do that: movie companies, if I am not mistaken, they even have (had) the requirement to test fire their guns once a year; manufacturers discharge prohibs all the time if they meet some legal conditions; most of the gunsmithing businesses also do that, LE agencies and some others.

Built specifically for the Canucklehead market with a 19" bbl so they could be sold UNrestricted (which they did for awhile), the asshat feds decided to restrict, then quickly prohibit, AKs and variants.

At the time the rifle in question was neither restricted nor prohibited, neither was it's 7.62x39 underfolding twin, and yes the mags actually held 30 rounds (range rules were 5 only though). I bought one of those on my lunch break at work (the 7.62x39 along with a case of Chinese surplus), later I bought a dozen, new 20 round mags for my then restricted FN. You could do that before the gun laws took an enema. I seem to remember ammo was more expensive (relatively) but then I shot a lot more. Sorry the laws today suck, but it wasn't always that bad.
PS I'm not that old, but at 19 my first handgun was a Walther PP, can't do that now either.

in '88 I was on the range at Poco, probably was in '92 as well.

Those prices in the ad were after they were registered. The before registration price was a hair under $500 for a fixed stock and more for the folders and RPK.
They saw the writing on the wall and dropped the prices to clear the stock before they got stuck with them.
I remember when that catalog came out.
 
I actually thought koalorka's question was a tad rude. For the record there are legal cases being undertaken so that our these rifles can be taken to the range. The only reason they are not now is because of a reinterpretation by anti bureaucrats so that they don't have to process the applications. It is that simple. If you ask me, the whole SAP thing is horse ####.

Never did that, but I do remember mine was brutal on brass.... Don't think I had any eject out without some sort of deformity on it...

I had one (the second one with the little plastic cleaning kit holder in the stock) when I was out west for a summer. Right out of the box, I was hitting grapefruit at 80 yards. I sold it for college tuition money, before the laws prohibiting them were on the horizon; when the sh@t hit the fan, I didn't have the money to buy another one. I really regret not being in the 12.5 club when I saw some surplus hungarian and east german AKs for $300 at Ontario Sporting Supplies... :(
