The odd action shotgun

When I was a kid my Dad had a mossberg bolt .410 , 10 years later I bought another used one, you know the ones with the screw on choke on the end. Anyways a bolt action type or lever shotgun seems to be better suited for rifles imho! I mean imagine trying to work a bolt at a bird flying through the air for a repeat shot and you'll get discouraged in a hurry! Semis, pumps, doubles are where it's at! I could never understand the purpose of bolt/ lever shotguns! What are your opinions on the subject!
 
Mossberg's bolt series in 12, 16 and 20 make real decent platforms for a slug shooting deer gun. They were meant to be used as a utility /work gun. By that I mean a farm gun or rural property just in case gun. They do work well for those purposes. I agree they are not a prime candidate for a wing shooter.

Sure was I had two at one time a 12ga and a super goose 10ga or what ever they called it. For me they were no better than a SXS , two shots maybe at best in fact worse really than a SXS at least in my hands but looked cool so we tried them at the time

I can remember getting a triple with a Goose Gun on ducks before...this was as a kid.
They reach out quite a ways, offsets the action speed with a bit more reach IMO.
Actually was out for a stroll with it yesterday...Wapoose hunting. No Wapoose, but a lovely day none-the-less. They have original sling points ( visualize that 36" bbl waving around above your head when slung ) and are D & T for a peep sight...factory D & T.
 
When I was a kid I did a lot of duck hunting with a Mossberg 20-gauge bolt gun. I got some birds with it, but reloading was a real pain. The mag only held two shots and I didn't have a spare, so you would have to pop the mag out, refill, drop one in the chamber and snap the mag back in. It seemed to take forever when the birds were flying.
 
Have two of them. One a friend gave me because he was choked at paying the price of 410 shells and the other could not pass up at $40 ( about 25 years ago). Zero chance for a followup shot in my hands. Viewed the magazine as a handy way to pack extra shells. You see them everywhere around here, most guys have them as truck guns and use them like singles. Solid little guns and I always got a kick out of the variable choke feature.
 
My son has a JC Higgins ( Sears brand ) 12 Gauge tube fed Bolt action.
Anomaly is a good word, lol. He's not really shot it, it's a gift from an elderly Uncle.
 
Bolt guns wear in my mind more meat guns than for wingshooting. Ground swatting a grouse or rabbit or knocking a raccoon out of a tree, with two extra shells conveniently stored in an easily loseable container.

CAUTION: Do some research on that model of gun. There was a serious issue with them and a recall was made. They are unsafe. Some will argue otherwise but Sears did recall the guns.
