the payoff...

I doubt there is anything alarming judging from the brass, however, to be sure, if you can try another brand cartridge. If they also come out flared like that, get a pair of calipers and measure the case extension. I still doubt there is something wrong with your rifle as I see no primer set back or any other signs.

Oh, that brass looks just fine to me. I would certainly use it.

Now that they are fire-formed to that rifle, time to cast some wheelweight slugs, get a can of Red Dot and start shooting 538 rounds to the pound (13 grains): dime a shot....... and so little recoil that your Helper can try it herself without getting hurt. Accurate enough to smack a 1-litre plastic pop bottle out to 200, too.

The Brass is HALF the cost of your ammunition. Might as well use it until it drops. With the Harris Load (13 grains of Red Dot) it will last 20 to 30 firings if you do your part.

Have fun!

That's the next step for sure. Purchasing a whole reloading setup...and getting wife buy off, well that's another story, lol (especially when she finds out it'll happen at the kitchen table !)

Regardless, keeping all my brass, documented to the rifle it was used in.
