The perfect moose/elk rifle, or not...

Restocked surplus Mauser with Lyman receiver sight. 8mm x 57 220 grain Hornady spitzer at 2350 fps = dead moose.

I wanted to use my 30-06, but the 'smith was not done with it in time so I took my backup and it worked to perfection.

BRNO ZG-47 in 30-06 with Remington 180gr Core-lokts or a Savage 99E in .300 Savage with Remingtons also. Maybe Federals, we'll see.

I used a .338 Federal shooting Federal Premium 185 TSX loads, but due to a surgery for my FUBAR'd ankle, I was not able to close the deal on elk but managed to dust a nice 3 point Whitey.
It will be different this year, I swear it ! ! !

last year i was all ready to go hunting moose with my 280 abolt with 160 gr. tsx's, then along came my 3 whelen. I had it loaded up with 225 gr. tsx's and scoped with a 6x42 leupold. I had it pointed at the vitals of a moose but my hunting partner wanted his turn at killing a moose so I waited for him to shoot it using his savage 99 dm in 308. Our other hunting partner also shot a moose that trip using a rem.700 dm in 280 using 140 gr, tsx'x that I loaded up for him. That rifle is mine now too as he decided he wanted a 3006. Life is great when you own a 280 and a 35 whelen

Last couple of seasons it's been my 99F in .308 with my 30-06 stainless Ruger 11 taking the wet days.Probally the same this year although I'm going to try and get my 99's in .250 and .300 into the hunt some this year.

The last moose I got was with a Remington Sendero in 338 RUM with a Leupold VX3 4.5-14 X 50 with B&C reticle and Hornady 225 grain Interbonds, worked great.

TC Pro-hunter .300WM - Nikon Monarch 2.5-10x44 BDC, 180gr el cheapo winchester ammo.

Didn't get one...

browning a bolt medallion, with 180 accubonds, topped with a 3.5-10x50 vortex viper. seems to work well although i never got a chance to connect on one last year.

Sporterized Spanish 93 mauser in 7x57 with a Nikon Monarch for calf moose the last few years. It's a little heavy but I love it. When we get a bull tag I take my Rem 700 in .300 wby.
