The perfect moose/elk rifle, or not...

1955 Winchester Model 70 300 H+H 70grs. IMR 4831 with a 165gr Nosler Combined technology same load I have used since 1982 in this rifle sometimes the bullet manufacture changes from yr. to yr but never the recipe. I am stuck in a rut I should try a different caliber.

Never hunted for elk or moose yet, but have tags for both this year and will be carrying a tang safety Ruger M77 in .338 Win Mag with a yet to be determined load and bullet.

6.5x55, williiams apperature, 140 gr. nosler partition or 160 lapua. I suddenly feel under gunned surounded by all these 300338-06ultramaglapuawhizbang600nitrojobbies. Of course, the critters don't notice a difference but my shoulder sure does.

I am taking a Steyr-Mannlicher Luxus in 7mm RM with 160gr Barnes X and IMR 7828. My spare will be a Tikka T3 in .338 Win Mag with 250gr Partitions.

In many ways that is very cool, wish I could say I stuck with one gun for that long!

You are visiting a very dangerous place, where large arsenals are the norm.
Beware!;)
