The perfect shotgun? Have I created it?

I love the "tacticool" look of the shotgun with the wood stock. For some reason the wood stock makes it look like it "means business".

very very close, Id suggest synthetic instead of wood (but I think wood looks better) for the perfect ONE gun. Well done! :dancingbanana:

The wood is a little more 'yellow' than I like, and I've been thinking about stripping it to really bring out the 'blonde' colour.

Simple sanding? Stripper? I don't want to damage the wood.

I think the wood is what sets this one apart. Synthetic stocks (of which I have many shotguns fitted with) are just so BLAH.

I meant more animal defence than human.

I struggled with the sidesaddle idea as well... it's more to be able to keep ammo with the gun, rather than for a 'tactical reload'. I find I can get them out of my pockets almost faster than the sidesaddle.

For the purpose of keeping shells with the gun, the sidesaddle is ideal. Never the less, fast loading, especially if you keep the gun unloaded, is important if the intent of the gun is defensive. This requires practice. If loading is not practiced, you will not do it very efficiently under stress. Loading is most easily accomplished if the rounds are brass down in the sidesaddle. That way the gun can be held upside down by the support hand at the forend or with the loading port to the left when held by the pistol grip in the right hand. In my experience, loose shotgun shells in the pocket are less than ideal.

Added some nicer pictures... you know the more I look at this thing, the nicer it gets. :)

I second what farmerbob said, synthetic is more weather-proof for a perfect shotgun.

Trigun

you dont really need synthetic for a pump shotgun: its not like if it warps it will affect POI or function. if its properly sealed it wont be damaged by weather.
personally, i much prefer the look of wood on a shotgun.

i really like it except for the sidesaddle.

Nice job.
Always did like the looks of wooden stocks.

Birchwood Casey used to make a stock reconditioning product that included everything to remove the old finish and add a new one.

Refinished a police stock that I purchased (used) to replace the Remington folder (Yah I know - I was young and stupic). Refinished stock turned out pretty good. Was able to figure it out with zero woodworking experience.

I've got a side saddle that is sitting on the shelf as I don't like the way the gun balances with it mounted and full of shells. Doesn't feel right to me.

I'd add provisions for a basic sling as the last thing you want to do is have someone "bump" the shotgun when it is leaning against something and scratch the stock.

The 14" barrel looks just right. Not too long (18") or to short (12.5").

Cheers

I bought it off of this site - I'd never seen a 14" Rem barrel with a MOD choke before! All the 14's I've seen before were cylinder. I have an 18.5" Police barrel and it's IC.
