The Phantom of Hungry Hill

The remote coastal communities routinely shoot relocated grizzly bears. It appeases the Walt Disney types that these bears are being relocated but the reality is they head for the nearest community after release and that is the end of the story. Sort of like the out takes on the Disney movies. (second most wildlife violations in the entertainment game, Mutual Of Omaha's wildlife show was the most fined. The younger types might not remember Mel Perkins and his sidekick Joe, it was a weekly TV show in the 60's)

I seem to recall there was mountain Grizzly that was relocated to a remote location in the northwest area of the province and it eventually made it's way back to where it was trapped, a distance of more than a few hundred kilometers. :eek:

Do the RCMP still haunt Hungry Hill with speed traps?......Or am I thinking the wrong place on H16?

I'm from PR, but Terrace has a nice stuffed 'kermode' bear in their airport....
 
Not so much as they used too, Decker Lake is a place to watch out for. There was a rookie Mountie who used to park at the bottom of Hungary Hill (~78/79) and bust truckers as they wound her up for the hill. He pulled a few other similar less than brilliant moves and PO'd his local boss to the point where they transferred him to Revelstoke when they were building that big dam. He got to handle the construction types when they hit town to blow off steam, we all wished him well:).

This video pissed me off. Those conservation officers have no right to shoot the public's wildlife. Furthermore, a wealthy American would have paid $100,000 into the Canadian economy to shoot a legendary trophy grizzly bear like that. And then another $5,000 for a life size mount.

Shameful how our wildlife is devalued in this country. What a waste of a hunt and a beautiful animal. Those genetics should have been saved and sold as breeding stock to improve the grizzly blood lines for people who truly appreciate the bears for what they are...a symbol of Canadian wilderness and one of the last true beasts this country has to offer.

Won't be long before all our wildlife is being shot by provincial employees on private "state" hunts financed by hard working taxpayers like me. What a crime it is when our government steals our natural wealth from under us in such ways.

Scary part unicorn2 is Dead serious he has a very strange colonial idea that he is entitled and all others must pay ridiculous fee for his hair-Brain scheme's

It so English colonialism at its finest lord over us commoners

A quick tip, if you don't want to pay for speeding tickets then don't speed, not very complicated. Some always blame the messenger.
 
I mean no disrespect but this line of thought is very detached from a basic understanding of bears, their behaviour and a real and present danger to public safety. Not to mention local farmers losing a fortune in beef sales. Public safety must never be sacrificed for the sake of a lost guiding opportunity. It could have been one of my kids, colleagues, friends or family lying dead or dying near any one of those fields when that bear was still alive.

I hear you I work as a wildlife Monitor from time to time and have no issue with removing problem animals and it normall part of life wen you live in Remote areas
Famly and property com first as money can be hard to comby up around Toply and kids are out and about playing in the bush and fields
A Grizly will take on a full grown man a kid is a easy target
