I promised a range report so here it is!

There had been a lot of swiss arms pictures and "group size oriented" reports already, so I won't be repeating it here.

Due to the retarded 5rds limit, only 210 rounds of 5.56 and .223 (Federal, Winchester Q and UMC) were fired - rifle was zeroed at 50 and 200 yards. With 6 mags, I was working as quickly as I could already before the sky turned dark.

What I have: Swiss Arms Carbine, old PRI rail made for the TSE, Surefire M520 dedicated forearm 9V system and Aimpoint Comp M4 ( TSE JR must be dinning on steak and lobster for the money he made off me! :p;)

Shooting:
I quickly zeroed the rifle at 200 yards and then headed to do 50 yards shooting. I ran through 90 rounds by alternating between 2 shots standing and 2 shots prone. The rifle was noticeable heavier than my AR setup. Recoil was noticeably softer than the AR, more of a push than a bang. After about 60 rounds, the handguard was getting pretty hot, especially in the area around the gas exhaust and the gas block. Good thing I was wearing Nomex gloves..... it will be too warm for barehands to be comfortable.

Starting at 25yard, the softer recoil started making a difference. I don't really shoot swiss arms alot - but I "felt" I was shooting faster with the following up shots than with the 9mm AR. On the other hand, I found the stock just a bit too long, and it makes it a bit harder for me to shoot on advance.

After doing over 40 mags changes, my trigger finger hurts. Also, since I have smaller hands, it is impossible for me to manipulate the safety with my thumb at the ready position.

nice, odd about the heat though...thats not alot of rounds for it to start cooking your hands.

Very cool looking rig! :D

How low is the Aimpoint M4, would it be possible to co-witness (like a lower 3rd), or is it too high?

ETA

It looks as if the Surefire forend takes away the vent holes, which may heat it up faster.

No co-witnessing for this setup at all - but I wear a pair of peltor so this actually works quite well. I would much prefer to have a welded down rail version -

The plate carrier is Blackwater - got it from Dave's Surplus awhile ago.

Stock too LONG???

Wow: You must be a tiny man!

;)

Just kidding! Good subjective report of your experience - I find the stocks of the Swiss Family Rifles about an inch too short... but I do somewhat resemble an orangutang...

LOL. I am 5'9"

I find the stock to be a pretty snug fit, could be longer.. but it does the trick. Hey GT, we need a size comparison photo :D

I must be the exception since I love the stock length, at 6"2 with size 37 1/2 shirt sleeves, but I also like to use the Speedfeed/Remington shotgun youth stocks, and I run my carbine stocks usually on the first notch out only.
