Hi guys, new to reloading and am trying to find powder for my 9mm luger reloads with a 124gr bullet. Everywhere I go and every website that I visit is out of stock. Whats the deal, if I ever find some do I have to buy like 10pounds because its as rare as hell?

They have a store in Ajax. Good guys give them a call open Sunday's. Anytime I've been there always take time to help you out..

After the Sandy Hook shooting (Dec 2012), people in the US started panic buying. It ate up everything everyone had in inventory and spurred further panic buying due to shortages. All powders, including rifle, were exceedingly hard to find for a couple years. Rifle powders came back first and pistol powders have been showing up more commonly for the past year or so but still sell out quick. You need to be on the ball, try to find out when shipments are coming in, and order as soon as it does. If there are any brick-and-mortar stores near you that sell powder, you may have better luck there as online retailers get hammered when an order of powder comes in. Many people are short on powder and snatch up much as they can afford as soon as it arrives. It all just perpetuates the shortages.

It's likely to happen again (though hopefully on a smaller scale) if another Democrat gets into the White House this year.

Maybe an Ontario thing. Bought from Epp's, pal needed (they asked at the counter before they handed it to me and at the cash when I went to pay for it), Le barons, pal needed, Cabelas's, pal needed, just bought 5 lbs. on Thursday from Lowrys, and she called me back because I forgot to give my pal

Cabelas here has Titegroup. I bought 2 4lb kegs last week.

These days I find it hard to believe that pistol powder can't be found at all. Maybe some of the go-to ones are scarce, but I've seen no shortage of fast and medium powders lately such that reloaders are utterly hooped.

There's also VV and Vectan stuff out there, not just Hodgdon.

The PAL for powder is a store policy thing. If you disagree with a store requiring to see a PAL to buy powder, don't shop there. It's not legislated at all. LeBarons and several LGS' I've bought powder at on Ontario only require a drivers license to prove age of majority.
Personally, I don't care if they want to see a PAL. They are supposed to record your name, phone number, and address for all powder purchases anyway but I have been told several retailers in Western Canada don't even do that.
