finished shooting, check all my guns and get to the sks. heard a rattle when i picked her up... opened the mag and the pin falls out! round black metal about half the size of my pinky. well, ofcourse i couldnt go until i tryed a full strip. i dont have the tools to weld this back in. anyone else had this happen? 1954 russian any suggestions?

Did the full strip work??? :D

Just take it to a gunsmith and have it welded back in (I know, I know, it's a stupid law, but it IS the law. Not worth risking a jail term and firearms ban after a "prohibited device(s)" charge)

Pin back in

Find any welding shop that has a TIG (Heliarc) machine. Take the mag housing and the pin in, and they should be able to do the job in about 5 minutes (and probably less.....about 4 minutes of set up and 1 minute welding.) Be sure to take the follower out before welding.

If you use a torch, it will put too much heat into the magazine housing, and distort it. TIG will keep the heat localized.

Then, file off the part of the weld that is protruding so that it is flush, and cold blue it.

Alternately.............new complete magazine housings are available, complete with follower, for less than $25. Only thing is that they may be numbered, and your numbers will not match.
