The rare Marlin 60

Not rare at all. Not expensive guns new though, and, they work so well I suspect that owners just hold onto them. Like Hank, I would be surprised if the 60 out-sold the 795.

Stats show that the Marlin 60 is the world's number one .22 rifle. Apparently it has sold more than the 10/22 which came out in 1964 vs the model 60 in 1960.

I also read somewhere that it is a exceptionally good quality rifle for the price point even by today's standards. I picked up my first model 60 for $160 and like it so much that I pick up a stainless varient with a birch stock for $340.

Some of the features I find more appealing than its closest competitor ( Ruger 10/22) is that the base model 60 has a last round hold open, micro grove rifling which is fantastic on a .22 and a standard heavy barrel. There is probably more new rifles available on the Canadian market than used one because people tend to keep these rifles.

Just got a new Marlin 60 DLX...

Site sponsor on here (tilsonburg gun shop) has a couple of other 60s in... Like the stainless and the regular.

Great gun for the money. This one was about 320... The regular 60's are brand new 260 ish... Was a used one at a local show, buddy was asking 360... lmao!!! Thats why I dont go to the local shows often!

This thing can thump 10 rounds into a 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch group at 50. So I mean, cant ask for much more then that! Ive only tried CCI standard too im sure if I fiddled around with ammo it could tighten up a bit.

I had one a few years ago and sold it foolishly. Paid $180 for it new. It was blued and laminate. I think it was 2 years ago now a guy came into lgs and I snatched a stainless grey laminate he was wanting to trade in. The store didn't offer much so I made an offer we both walked away happy(paid $175 cash was like new hardly shot).

Built my gf a 10/22 this summer and after spending almost a grand on it I still like my model 60 better. Go figure

Tube fed guns aren't popular anymore, 'cause most hunters need to jump out of their vehicle quick, to make a shot. So a detachable clip is the way to go, in order to be somewhat legal when hunting.

trebor2880, do you mean "in order to be legal"? (I don't think 'somewhat' comes into play? It's either legal or it's not.)

Correct me if I am wrong, but a Non-Restricted firearm, uncased & unloaded, is perfectly legal.

And I agree, the mag fed is quicker than the tube fed when loading. So as long as you are out of your vehicle when you load the firearm & off the road (distance determined by regs) you're good to go.

Cheers
Jay

I believe you need to be a certain distance from the travelled portion of a road. A lot of people just step out and shoot at birds. And it takes too long to load and unload a tube mag.
With the clip it's easy to just slip one in and out every time you see something to shoot at while driving along the roads.

It took me over a year to find a deal on a used 60. Bid on a few but lost out.
Then I stumbled on the SS below with Simmons scope, (yes cheap, but it matches!), plano softcase, cleaning kit and 350 rounds of ammo all for $250.00. Obviously not in the EE as it would have been gone in 60 secs.
Found it in a less reputable exchange page but it was local so I went ahead.
Love the gun. Wont be parting with it any time soon.

Great rifles, had to jump in.

This is my 989M2, basically a 60 done up like a U.S. M1 Carbine. I bought it new in the early 70s and it is my go to plinker, never lets me down.
