The rare Marlin 60

Great rifles, had to jump in.

This is my 989M2, basically a 60 done up like a U.S. M1 Carbine. I bought it new in the early 70s and it is my go to plinker, never lets me down.

Thank you for the kind words.

If you look closely you can see the rear sight above the ejection port, below the scope turrets. It slides into the receiver dovetail. Along with the top wooden handguard with the M1 groove down the centre, front barrel band and short barrel it gives the "M1 Carbine" look. Purely cosmetic, but a handy little rifle.

I understand it was only produced in the 70-80s. the 989M1 has the tube mag, but for a M1 Carbine look the box mag seems more appropriate.

Model 60s are excellent rifles.
Occasionally the buffer cracks, or firing pin breaks.
A 10/22 is more popular with the dressup gang, lots of options. But as a useful .22 rifle, the Model 60 is just as good.
Going through my odds and ends of parts the other day, have most of the bits for a Model 70 (box magazine version). Checked what the rest of the parts would cost, brought tears to my eyes. Spare parts didn't use to be so expensive.

They are great rifles... too bad the people cranking them out of the Georgia plant for the last few years can't seem to put sights on straight!

I picked one up, new in box... looked nice at first until I took it out and noticed the rear sight is canted 10 degrees! Same with another Marlin XT-22 I got on a trade, canted sights. Even if you're going to put a scope on it, there's no pride of ownership in a rifle with crooked canted sights.

My rear sight is the exact same. Got it about 6 years ago for $169. I've since swapped out the Tupperware stock with a Boyd's laminate, installed mcarbo trigger spring and new buffer, bipod and 4-12 bushnell. It's without the favorite 22 I've ever had and one I doubt I'd ever get rid of.

Wow. Never heard of this rifle until now.
I love my Rem 597 now and have settled on it pretty hard.
Looks like a solid rifle. Like a 10/22 but not a junky overpriced mediocrity. Must resist...urge...to buy another.....22LR!

Got a synthetic and a wood stock. The wood was regular 300$ and sail had a special for 200$ last year so could not resist that...
Along with a Speed-D-Loader, these are so much fun!!!

Nothing new about road shooting

lol... Well, this thread is the first one I've ever read where the "benefit" of a mag-fed rifle for poachers/law-breakers is brought-up. lol

I've decided that as much as I like the idea, and the look of tube-fed guns...I don't have any room for them in my life. Just let my last one go, and I suspect there will be no more.

Unless of course...I spring for a Marlin guide gun in .45/70. :)
