The REAL cost of buying a new handgun

While i completely agree with you. Many clubs do not like it when people are walking around with guns in a holster.

I belong to a very progressive club in BC. As long as the firearm is unloaded, except on the firing line.
During IDPA and TAC rifle matches, all you see are empty holstered handguns and slung, chamber flagged rifles when we move between stages.

Still Alive Ontario lives in an alternative reality to anywhere else in Canada except maybe Quebec when it comes to rules and regulations.

Take Care

Loaded or unloaded, aside from a safe, IMO, a proper holster is the safest place to put one’s gun.

I like to have a holster and lots of extra mags for my handguns, but I find the real cost involves buying ammo for it. This is why I'm always SMH when somebody comes around asking where he can find the 'best deal' on a gun. The $20 or $50 you might save wheeling and dealing doesn't mean much when you might shoot ammo costing that much or more in a single range session...

Competition is different. We are allowed to have our pistols holstered in between stages or while waiting our turn...unloaded of course. Don't forget too, ontario requires clubs to shroud metal targets.

Like Canuck44 said, Ont and Que live in an alternate universe!
I’m glad for the freedom we have right now. Things can change but at least some common sense still prevails out West, for the moment!
It only takes one idiot or one moment of carelessness to change all our holster rules. I hope our members realize the privilege they have and always be vigilant.

I have been to a few outdoor ranges in Ontario and holster carry was no issue. I've seen it not permitted in a busy indoor range where there were tight quarters and the RO did not always have a clear line of sight on shooters. You are not shooting Ipsc or iPda in most indoor ranges anyway I imagine. I understand at least one range in Quebec had to change their rules to allow holster carry after guns were stolen from the firing line.

There are IPSC and IDPA sessions indoors here. There’s only one shooter at a time so the crowding issue is addressed. The courses of fire are simplified for safety and logistic reasons. Glad to hear there are some reasonable ranges out your way Gdawg!

Well a couple anyway ;-)

I would certainly be pissed if a gun got stolen because of a range rule.
