The reloading room - with pics !!!

I'm finally getting around to organizing my reloading room into something workable, rather than the disorganized mess it turned into for a while. I just thought I'd share a couple of pics. Those plastic "shoe" boxes are from a Walmart boxing day special, and from Home Depot. Apparently they're still 99 cents each at Home Depot. They're great for keeping your brass organized. The bigger totes on the floor are full of shotgun hulls. Sorry about the quality of the pics. I have no idea where my camera is, and all I had was my wife's Iphone.

;)I think organizing or reorganizing reloading rooms is an ongoing task:p. It is for me anyway. It sems like with the acquisition of every new firearm comes the restructuring task for support 'goodies'. And then, after visiting 'the kids' in your area with the traditional shopping trips to WSS, P&d and now Cabela's, any access of room I had has vanished.

I employ many of the same plastic storage tray techniques you've shown as they're quick, easy and handy. This 1st shot of my room is taken from the bat wing doors that separates my den from the reloading room.

The 2nd pic shows the basic of my reloading bench and shelves with primarily storage for my cast bullet supplies.

The 3rd basically shows my storage and selection of jacketed bullets and on the right, shelves with reloading manuals.

And the last photo shows five stacks of the trays acquired from Walmart, used for brass storage. One more similar stack to the left of my reloading bench, shown in the 1st photo. Once again, I'm running out of room:redface:. I thought with retirement, eventually would come a move to a smaller home. Seems like I need the opposite.

The presses are all permanently mounted to my bench except my shotgun press. When I mounted them, I didn't have my ham radio setup on the bench. Now the cables and wires from it are interfering with them. My plan is to move 2 of them to the end of the bench. I just haven't got that far yet. I'll grab another picture for you guys this evening. As far as the powder containers.....yea....they're all empty...so are the primer boxes. :rolleyes:

JP-That's a really nice setup. I see that you have your cast bullets in plastic containers. How do they hold up to the weight ? I've always kept mine in the metal coffee cans that are kind of hiding behind my safe in the top right of one of the pics. I'd love to put everything in the same type of container, but I was worried that eventually, the weight would destroy them.
 
Looks good. The white lid shoe boxes are the same as the ones I bought from Costco. Where did you get the clear lid ones?

So far so good;). I have roughly three sizes I picked up at a local hardware store. The reason I went with the three sizes:redface:, was to match the supplies of various calibers and weights I had on hand. I've used them for a while and haven't had any problem yet. The sizes are roughly;
  • 6"x5"x2"deep
  • 4"x4"x3"deep
  • 4"x4"x2"deep.
If I were to go with just one it would likely be the 4"x4"x3".

Guys on a different note I lived thru a house fire years ago and we lost most of everything. If you are like me you are constantly acquiring new equipment other than firearms and that equipment is expensive. I was just at wholesale sports visiting my nephew the other day and stopped at the bullet making supplies isle. I looked at the RCBS Pro Melt and to my horror they wanted 500.00 for it, I bought mine years ago for 125.00 and I thought that was outrageous at the time.

So what I am saying is our equipment is expensive and you will remember the big stuff but the little stuff adds up also. By taking a picture of your stuff and keeping the pictures in a couple of safe places it sure helps if the unthinkable happens and you need to prove what you had.

I take a pictures of my reloading stuff as well as my tools and various toys once a year on my birthday so I don't forget to . You never know.

Excellent advice Hunter64. I keep meaning to walk through my reloading room to take a quick inventory of how much I've spent on things over the years. In reality, I'm afraid to. I know there's a pile of money tied up there, and I'm not sure I really want to know how much I've spent. There's over a grand there in just brass...forget all the other stuff. I suppose I should go through there and make a video of everything that's on the shelves at the very least. Heck...there's 5 grand in ham radio equipment in that room too if you tallied everything up.
 
You've got a great setup. It makes me realized that you really don't need that much room. I have my bench in the garage, an unheated garage I might add. It kind of sucks in the winter, reason I put it in there was I was thinking I needed a ton of space. I might reconsider and move into my furnace room.

promise me you won't go building walls around your furnace that gets us HVAC guys to stand on our heads to get your furnace working some day.

I'm going through a similar process right now. Just remodeling my reloading room....12' x 12'. Putting a drop ceiling in, some fluorescent fixtures, and painting the walls. Then adding some wall shelving and a 4x8 peg board on one wall. My room was such a freakin mess that I couldn't find stuff already. It's so much more enjoyable when you're not looking for stuff all the time because it's properly organized. Oh, and a reloading room wouldn't be complete with out a mini-fridge for easy access to refreshments....like water and juice...;)...AND a intercom system to the wifey in the kitchen so that she knows when it's ok to bring me my lunch or dinner....:D.
