I currently own three: a .30-06, a .308 Win, and a 7mm Express.
All excellent rifles.

I also own two 700 Classics, a .300 H&H and a .250 Savage, and wish they were in BDL stocks. I prefer the fit.

Quite a collection indeed! Had a collection of "pre-classic" Classics plus 5 of one calibre a year (7X57, .257 Bob, .300 and .375 H&H, .250 Savage). Sold all of them except for the 7mm RM. It was my first actual hunting rifle (circa 1982. I was 12).

Took another BDL to the range today. A modern manufacture 30-06, Xmark trigger, recently off the exchange for much less than the cost of a Finnish plastic job.
The trigger was set at under 3lbs and Leupold M8 6X mounted as that's what I had laying around.
Loaded a handful of loads with nearly 60gr of H4350,
The last three groups were nothing short of spectacular considering.
155 Nosler CC, 150 Barnes TTSX and 165 Hornady IL into less than an inch. I was happy, but not surprised.

So much for the misconception that the newer ones aren't as good as the old ones.

I too recently picked up a mint unfired, recently produced BDL in 30'06 from a fellow gun nut.
Just mounted a VX III 3.5-10 with Tally rings.
Looking forward to working up a load for it soon!

I also just bought a minty 1983 BDL in 300WM from a fellow gun nut here on the EE,
so that's two 700 rifles I'll be working up loads for this spring.

Yes the bluing was poor on some of the stainless barrels. I had thought that all the early magnum bdl's had stainless barrels
See the add.

No, the barrel is not stainless on this one, some were, some weren't I believe,
the stainless barrels wouldn't hold the blue (or paint) that they applied to it from what I've read.

Your barrel should be SS even tho it's not stated on the barrel. It will be 23.5 inches long. Some of the barrels held the (rather unique) bluing method better than others.

This is a great thread. By now usually someone has cut them up somethin' fierce. I have some odditys. A 6MM###, 280 20", and 2 7mm-06s, along with a 7mm-08 VS all in BDL format. I want a November, '78 in 7mmEXPREM now.
