The Remington 700 BDL

Another day in paradise.
Spent the afternoon with my new friend Remington Peters. Born in August 1970 but still young at heart. Not bedded, free floated nor nothing. 270 Winchester, Redfield one piece base and rings and a late model Leupold. I've never shot this one before either.
Bore sighted it and fired two factory W-W Power Points to set the scope. They touched...
Loaded some 140 Bergers, 140 Nosler Ballistic Tips and 145 Hornady ELDX across the top. Next some 130 Barnes TTSX and 110 TTSX. H4350, all three shot groups an inch or under, with the two Barnes loads at under half. Pressed checkering and all, what a rifle!

I’ve got three Remmy 700 rigs but you guys take the cake for those glossy and beautiful fondlers....I like my 700 rigs dull and Cerakoted (when possible)

Keep them beauties coming!!

Cheers, Barney

Only thing better than one BDL is a pair of 'em...lol... ;)

Your barrel should be SS even tho it's not stated on the barrel. It will be 23.5 inches long. Some of the barrels held the (rather unique) bluing method better than others.

This is a great thread. By now usually someone has cut them up somethin' fierce. I have some odditys. A 6MM###, 280 20", and 2 7mm-06s, along with a 7mm0-8 VS all in BDL format. I want a November, '78 in 7mmEXPREM now.

If my 1962 BDL was stainless, then a magnet shouldn't stick to it,
I just checked, and a magnet sticks to it just like the rest of my blued rifles.

I have a 62 or 63 ADL in 7mm RM(my dad bought it new),I tried to blue the barrel and action.Action took it nicely but couldn't get the barrel to,then did some digging on it and found out it was stainless.Ended up arma coating it.I bought a used stock and drop mag(didn't like the blind mag) for it and bedded it.It shoots 168 gr LRAB and h4831 into around half inch at 100 yards and is still one of my main hunting rifles.Love the old BDL stocks and jeweled bolts.I did buy a older bdl stock for it but haven't got around to switching it over.Had a 30-06 bdl about 10 years ago, should have never sold it.
I think mine is a 1-9 twist but not sure.

Not all stainless steels are non magnetic.

The stainless steel used in a rifle barrel is magnetic. Try cold blue to determine if it is stainless.

The Remington 700 is a great rifle. I enjoyed many days in the field with my 700 ADL 30-06. However, what I really enjoy about the 700 is, there is a multitude of aftermarket products for a custom build. The 700 definitely has a place in the. "Rifle Hall of Fame."

Another Remington BDL came along to the range with me today. A gem of a December 1975 built BDL Varmint Special in 223 Rem wearing an old 24X Leupold with a tapered crosshair. Not bedded or even freefloated; this was as it came.
As I found out it had been been sitting way to long and wasn't even sighted in.
I grabbed three boxes of factory Fiocchi Ammo (40 gr Vmax, 50 gr Vmax and 55 FMJ) and a box of 50gr Ballistic Tip CFE 223 handloads I put together for another rifle. See if it likes any of them.
The 40 gr Vmax went into 0.7", the 50 gr Vmax into 0.35", the 50 gr FMJ was well over an inch, and the handloads were a two-hole three shot group at 0.3". 100 yrds.
A great day to be a Remington BDL! :)

Beautiful rifle and nice shooting!
BDL Varmint Special remains my favourite by quite a margin.....now to find that 25-06 version!

I'd love a Remington 700 "bdl" with a slim/light McMillian stock and a pencil/mountain barrel in 6.5 cm. Have to get one built someday.

Now you're talking the original Remington 700 Mountain Rifle! Maybe in a 260 Rem?
Walnut, blued or matte, floorplate or detach mag... Hmmmm :)
