The Remington Model 721

This gun came from an online retailer a few days ago.
A Remington Model 721 in 280 Rem dated November 1959. It was all there except the rear sight which was located quickly thanks to Gunrunner. The stock was worn out so I refinished it. Turned out to be a dense, nicely figured piece of walnut that improved with multiple coats of Antique Oil. The metal and bore are excellent. Aluminum buttplate, not yet drilled for sling studs, 2.5# trigger. Less then 700 of the 721's were chambered in 280 Rem so it's rare. Will shoot it soon, just thought id share.

Saw that one in person as it was coming in, was very clean. If it was in 30-06 or 30 H&H I probably would have grabbed it myself.

Very nice, and nice job on the re-finish. I have had several of them, also several M722's. I have a 721 in 30-06 and one re-barrelled in 7x57AI. In those days the workmanship was great and so was accuracy. For some reason the plain-jane look has grown on me and I prefer them over M700's, especially the new ones.
I have a 722 in 222 Remington that shot a .189" group in original unbedded stock. Yours is a keeper.

Very nice old classic! I have a 721B in 300H&H.

The only downside I know of is that the extractors are problematic if you need to replace one. I did manage to source a spare for mine from the States but the 30-06 type are N/A.

Yup, a lot of plastic junk is manufactured today. It's like throwing you're money into the wind. I have a few old classics that out perform most of the garbage found on gun manufactures websites.

Keep the breech face clean & the 721/722,XP-100,600,660,700,40X,Seven,673,XR-100,XP-100R extractors function well...788's also.

reminder-
Do not activate the safety to SAFE & attempt the cycle the bolt out of battery.....peeling the bolt handle off the bolt body.

Yes the safety on this is a bit stiffer than a model 700. Putting it on more so then taking it off.
