The Remington Vs Winchester

If both rifles are similarly equipped, if after handling both you have no preference, and you are not sentimentally tied to one brand over the other, then let the price make your decision for you.

You are not really trying to compare the same platform from the two manufacturers in question.........apples to oranges. I like both company's rifles, the 700s tend to shoot better right from the box but Winchester does make some very nice rifles. Rem's Ti ultra light series was lighter than anything Win ever put out and their Mountain rifle was another light weight winner. So comparing the Sendero, which was never designed to be light, to one of Winchesters lightest models is not really a fair comparison.
Either way they are both far superior to a Salvage or Tikka..........IMHO.

The price difference is minimal. I was expecting everyone to say the 700 is the best.
I already have a 77 in 264. But find that the barrel is a bit too short for the cartridge.

I have owned Winchesters (both pre- and post-64s) and Remingtons (including a custom 1-hole shooter)

Right now, one of the two Winchesters I own is a minty Model 70 Extreme Weather (stainless action/barrel & composite stock) in .270
The composite stock is fine for hunting, but I also have
a 2nd Winchester factory sporter walnut stock for it .. to wear when she needs to be pretty!
And yes, I did have a plan to customize it with a
stainless Shilen barrel in .257 Roberts a.i. (see photo below), but haven't gotten around to even starting that project, lol.

Anyway, I agree that some Remingtons are very nice and often very accurate but, for me, they lack the feel .. the magic .. that a Winchester has.

By the way, for those who might be curious, the other rifle in the photo (just visible above the Winney) is a Legendary Arms Works (LAW) M704 Closer in .280 Rem.
Another very nice rifle that I can't believe I sold .. lol.

I compete with a Remmy 700 Magpul .260 HB....

I push bush (dogs and several guys) with a Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle

And low light conditions I carry a Winnie Model 70 .308 Featherweight...

Buy them All.... What's not to like?

Whatever you chose, you're the fellow carrying/stroking/fondling/lugging/humping/hauling that rig.... :p

And when you have to "Send It".... you have to have the confidence to get 'er done.... choose your poison! I'm not gonna be there with ya at the moment of truth!

What works for you, works for you.... :dancingbanana:

Cheers,

I have to confess that I was at first strictly a CRF guy, but after owning a few Remingtons that could shoot, I softened my position. Now I am a trumpeter of GOOD GUNS not just a certain type of gun.

It finally arrived. I'm glad i waited for the Winchester. Feels so nice.

But since i wanted a Remington also i figured i better get one also. Not the Sendero. But I think it is a way better looker.

7mm-08

Between the 2 I think the trigger and the action are way smoother on the Winchester.

I say Winchester mainly because not too many have them. Sadly the cheaper Remington is more popular and they overlook the premium rifles like the M70 and equally excellent Ruger M77.

I have 70's and 700's, and the only gripe with the 70's is the safety, it's a little too easy to knock off from on, and it's in a position to get knocked off from on potentially in the bush.
I prefer the 70's safety design which blocks the firing pin instead of the sear/trigger, just wish it was more positive and less exposed.
