I have a Norinco 1911A1, which shoots great, but I have never liked the look and feel of it (rough surface and sharp edges). Here is what it looks like when I bought it a couple years ago:

I have also been looking for a G.I. .45 at a fair price. But it seems to be impossible to find. One day, I got bored, and started to change the Nork to a more "comfortable" looking pistol.

Over an entire year I polished, sand-blasted and parkerized the gun. Bought the MSH with lanyard loop from Brownells. Got a pair of G.I. grips in a local gun show. And a used parkerized barrel from somebody in EE. Not much money altogether.

Now the Nork looks like this:

In fact the factory logo is still there, just not showing well in the parkerized finish. Didn't try to remove it.

There are two other things that the Nork is different from G.I. 1911s - the lowered ejection window (can't do anything there) and the front sight. I was too lazy to change the front sight. It is fine with me for now.

Replaced the MSH to a Serrated flat type & changed the grips to these rosewood from the Colt. (The colt now wears walnut)
