The returned 9.3

Thanks, Diopter.

Bob,

Yes, the 9.3X62 is as much accurate as the X57, as long as you're not recoil sensitive. As always, the extra fps also gives extra push, but it's still supportable for most people.

Beautiful rig right there. I think I found my next rifle for fall bears over bait...

FWIW all the iron sighted rifles I've shot were capable of rediculous accuracy. And I seem to be able to shoot them offhand much better than my scoped rifles.

Its sad when my old USGI stocked M14 shot 2-4" offhand groups regularily and when I let my Sako 85 rip offhand I was lucky to group 10" :D

Thanks, Diopter.

Thanks Baribal,so I am getting back into shooting /hunting after a long time away. Is there a ballistics / ammo book or manual you guys would suggest and like I was saying I have a couple 7.62x54 mosins also and would like to try reloads with them as well as the 9.3x57 or 62!

For the 9.3X57, there is little (reliable with pressure test) infos except from Norma's manual and old RWS have loads for it. There is the article Diopter is posting, but the rest is Internet stuff, use at your own risk with common sense. Just remember that the X57 is a low pressure round, at about 43 500 PSI (3 000 bars). I also must point that the 9.3X57 is not ruled by CIP, so the only set standard is from Norma loadings.
One can use the 9X57 loads provided in "Hdgdon's Common European calibers" loadsheet, but you must be aware that there is an error on this sheet; the loads vs bullet weight are inversed. When you read 250 grains, you should read 280 and vice versa.
Also, Hodgdon translates the ADI 2206 powder as being the H4895, but in fact, it's the ADI 2206H wich is the correct one. ADI wich is the "Extreme" powders manufacturer, used the 2206 (BL-C2) for their testings.
Anyhow, the 2206 loads are correct to use with the H4895 too. ADI 2208 is the Varget, wich is correct in Hodgdon's table.

For the 9.3X62, there are plenty of reliable sources for the loads. Norma, VithaVuori, Hodgdon, Barnes, Lee, Speer, Nosler and Hornady all have loads sheets in prints.

My first load was 286gr Privi with 46gr Varget. No pressure signs.
Recoil was not a problem for me, but two other people more used to the 8x57 found it "heavy"
Will try to up it a bit and maybe chrono it next year.

Depending on OAL, it should take you around 2140 / 2180 fps, wich is over the 2067 fps for wich the sights were regulated.
The sights were regulated for a 286 grains, 2067 fps to a blank point of 120 meters, when holding at 6 o'clock (bottom centered) on a 20 cm diameter target.

I know next to nothing about European guns and calibres. But while up moose hunting the last couple years I have made the aquaintance of an old eastern European fella who loves "Check" (spelling) guns. This year he shows up with a 9.3x62. loaded with 300gr. round nose soft points. Cannot recall what the rifle make was, most likely "Check"
Massive bullet's compared with my 165gr. Nosler Partions in my 30-06. And the 165gr Nosler's has been responsible for alot of moose fatalities over the years.

Anyways the old fella got a nice bull, and the 9.3 x 62 did the job well. He did say the recoil was rather wicked as his friend who helped him sight it in before hunt took a couple shots and layed his eye open badly from not holding her properly.

I can certainly see why you fellas have a keen interest in these guns as they appear very well made and the different metric chamberings are interesting.

The x57 caliber Euro guns are great buys if in decent shape. All the calibers from 6x57 (6mm Remington) to 9 or 9.3x57 are extremely good hunting choices for various sized game. I have at least one rifle in each caliber, just "because", lol. The 7x57 is probably my favorite, but the 6.5x57 is one hell of a deer gun. - dan
