Evening gents, in this thread, I'd like to discuss what I'd like to own in terms or a neat hunting/target gun in the "scared liberal" variety. I first looked at the Colt AR-15, but I quickly learned of new calibers - specifically the 6.5mm Grendel. I also read up on the gas piston action. All of this brings me to my main issues.

Can I have a rifle that fires this caliber, and if so, can I install a gas piston?

I know most of the time, things do not happen as if on paper. From what I have learned, the 6.5mm is so similar to the 5.56 that it can be fed from existing AR-15 magazines, and there are conversion kits for that caliber. I have also learned that gas piston kits fit normal AR-15 type rifles. I would simply like to know if this is possible in real life, and where I might obtain the right parts to make this a reality.

Really?

Aw damnit. I should have read up on my laws more.

What about varminting?

I'll get the 338 for hunting then...

Sorry, so used to browsing around American websites, it's hard to get anything through my head.

Its not your head thats the problem. To anyone with common-sense, the AR-15 belongs in the non-restricted class.

However, Liberal governments don't operate with common sense, therefore our gun laws are absolutely moronic.

If you want a piston system black rifle for varminting, your options are:
Swiss Arms PE-90 .223/5.56, Tavor .223/5.56, XCR .223, Norinco Type 97 .223, Armalite 180b .223.

You'll have to go old school for semi auto hunting.
The VZ-58L 7.62x39mm , M14 .308 etc.

There's lots of stuff out there. Unfortunately the AR is out due to the restricted status which I have to say is pure BS.

It depends where he lives really. In Ontario, not a chance....out west, maybe.

Don't be so sure... at silverdale there is an abundance of groundhogs digging out the berms. Every day or so a stupid one will come out and run across one of the live ranges.

The regular's know to turn them inside out, and throw the carcass out of the shooting lane.

If you want a black rifle you can hunt with (7.62x51) you probably will have to wait for either the SCAR-H, ACR-H or the XCR-M 1-2 years away. AR's get hosed by the lame Liberal gun laws we have.

You've obviously never been to Connaught Ranges.

ETA: Wolverine Supplies can get Sabre AR-15's in 6.5 Grendel, but like has already been pointed it they are a range toy only.
