The rifle I will take to Africa.

Thanks! And when we go, it will be a mixed bag of game... I want a cape buffalo & my wife is actually talking about taking a leopard! :rockOn"

Cheers
Jay

Perfect...a 375 and a 30-06 and you can hunt to your little hearts' content. And don't discount the lowly impala. Snob hunters look down their noses at them, probably because they're the most plentiful animal around. But they are beautiful, tasty and extremely affordable. I could probably content myself sharing a camp with a serious hunter if I could wander about and whack impala and baboons. Actually, a baboon safari could be a fun diversion...good Christmas presents. Hmm...

You have good taste Jay...... Cape buffalo woukd be my choice as well...... Woukd like to do croc as well.......

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't leopard ridiculously expensive?

That's a hell of a deal......

I want to do a combination cape buff, plains game and wingshooting hunt.......

Oh ya, hell of a deal?! I'll take three tags at that price and leave one on the counter for anyone needing one!! :p

If you cry when opening a rifle, you might be a gun nut! Nice rifle by the way.

First time for me...

Buying, receiving and opening that package brought on a lot of emotion because of the realization that my Africa dream WILL come true if I live long enough!

Cheers

I look at it this way...... A family of four could dump that amount of cash easy taking a trip to Disney and have the same memory millions of others have every year...... Or a devout Hunter and his wife could do something really exotic, live amongst and learn about a culture they know little of, enjoy their true passion and have memories that are unique and would last a lifetime..... Who would you rather sit across a campfire from?..... Buddy that did Africa or buddy that rode space mountain?.....

Same as your desire to hunt Argentina....... Both are unique experiences.....

Jay..................a small word of advice, take it for what it is worth. Go to your local bank and borrow 20K, pay it back over the next 4 or 5 years and go on your hunt while you are young enough to really enjoy it. It is funny how a guy can never save enough to go to Africa, but has no problem paying it back after you do it. I don't know how many guys I have talked to who have said they could never afford Africa..........and then drive away in their $65,000 diesel pickup!!!!! That is exactly how I made my first Safari and I highly recommend others to do the same..........it IS worth it. If you are young and have a good stable job, there is no reason not to do it this way, plus you'll never get lower interest rates than right now. Just an avenue you might want to consider.

That never occurred to me but it is damned near genius advice.

You can always make more money; you can't make more time. You can't even buy it back. Don't let it slip away.

I wholeheartedly agree...... My only advice, and something I am living currently, is that one should evaluate the value of their hunts......

It's not about the "prestige", it's about the experience.......

I haven't done Africa, and that experience would be valuable......

I think every Hunter should evaluate their dollars, know what they have to spend and maximize their experience accordingly.....

That being said, I still get excited for whitetail season and time with the boys every year.......

I won't be doing that either after adding up the costs. If I had alot of disposable income possibly? Hell Brad I can't even bring myself to buy decoys any more!

I don't blame you. Seriously, congrats and enjoy your African hunt, ditch the if! We only one go on this little blue dot, might as well have a look around. When it come full circle and your looking at your downed animal the initial flood of emotion will seem trivial!

Is it wrong to steal your kid's white crayon?

Is it still wrong if you steal it to put a white line on the rear sight of the Dangerous Game rifle you plan on taking to Africa for Cape Buffalo?

Jay, this was a hyena bait about a month ago in RSA, you can see on the left hand side where the leopard chewed it up! I can't open the link for the leopard hunt you posted, where was it? We hunt them in Namibia.
