Hey everyone,

I'm buying an AR in halves and pieces, and was wondering about some things I may or may not buy.

I was wondering mostly about what little doo-dads you guys have found really useful. I'm not talking BUIS, but smaller things, like special tools or small parts a newbie might overlook.

I've heard about a special wrench for the nut on the buffer tube/reciever extension, is it worth having one of these?

Are there any little internal parts you've had to replace, or found a better after-market version of?

I think I've got all my bases covered (Upper reciever, lower reciever, stock, grips, sights, mags, ammo) but I'd love to get some input on the finicky little pieces.

Thanks.

No, get a quality upper and lower and your AR is good to go. Brands you should consider: LMT, Stag, Rock River Arms, Armalite, DPMS.

Tools that everyone with an AR should have include: a front sight adjustment tool, barrel wrench, stock removal wrench and a set of punches. That's about it.

I've got an upper on the way, and I'm just waiting to hear from Walt at Arms East about a Stag Lower. Since the barrel is riding in a VLTOR VIS, it should come with the VLTOR wrench. Punches I already own.

So now all I need is a stock removal wrench.

Anyone else have any little doo-dads?

The stock removal wrench's seem to be hard to find..unless you pay a fortune to have it shipped from the US by itself.
I have a mini-mill chuck wrench i picked up at princess auto for $2 that fits perfect

I used one of the cheap stuff like Ronin has - I gave up. Went out and bought the most expensive one from Brownell and never looked back. Again, I loctited my castle nut because I do not stake them myself.

do a google search for the 15 minutes AR triger job its an easy mod that will take you 5 minutes to do since you all ready have all the part out of the lower. It will help a lot and your triger will still be stiff enought to compete in service rifle event if you want
