last time i went to our local store asking if they have the Robinson XCR and that dude told me all the XCR's are restricted ............. but I do remember I saw Wolverine's website saying it's NR.... i'm really confused now.

btw, is there LAR-15 10 rounds mag for .308 and 7.62 x 39 ??? you guys know what i mean~ oh i really mean buying the Robinson pistols~~~

Nope, I'm saying start the conversation by asking if it is over 18.5" (I believe but you would have to double check). If it is, it still might have been a mini that had a longer barrel put on it. The true answer is, he is likely incorrect but he is the seller. Just buy one from Wolverine or me!

If the barrel is longer than 18.5", then it is non restricted. Unless it is an Ar15, Ak47 and other prohibited/restricted firearm by name.
XCR look nothing like an Ar15...

Any XCR-L or M with a 18.5 inch or longer barrel is NR. XCR pistol (mini or micro) is restricted no matter the barrel length. And yes there are XCR 10 round pistol mags available in x39 but none in .308. Check Wolverine Supply, I think they will be getting some in soon. I have 2 5/40 x39 mags they use to sell (best x39 mags I've got) and they work great just not sure if you can still get them. The 10 rounders work OK.

It would not be restricted, for that example take a look at the brs-99

Yes it would still be restricted as it is the lower that is registered. If you were to spend or should I say waste the money cutting up two barrels to make one barrel at the legal 18.5" then have the rifle re registered as non restricted you would be ok. I really dont see anyone doing that as it would be cheaper just to buy the non restricted version in the first place. The factory "barrels" from a micro and a standard NR XCR are not interchangable. The length from the gas valve are completely different.

The short barreled BRS-99 is registered as a restricted rifle. The XCR Mini and Micro models are registered as handguns. A semi-auto centerfire rifle that is not named as restricted, but is restricted only due to barrel length can be made non-restricted with a re-barreling to at least 18.6 inches, and an OAL of 26 inches or greater. A handgun will always be restricted, even if it is made to meet all other criteria for non-restricted, because it is registered as a handgun.

Definition of a restricted firearm

According to the Criminal Code, a restricted firearm is:

  • a handgun that is not a prohibited firearm,
  • a firearm that
    • is not a prohibited firearm,
    • has a barrel less than 470 mm in length, and
    • is capable of discharging centre-fire ammunition in a semi-automatic manner,
  • a firearm that is designed or adapted to be fired when reduced to a length of less than 660 mm by folding, telescoping or otherwise, or
  • a firearm of any other kind that is prescribed to be a restricted firearm

That's why the BRS can be made NR, while the XCR pistols cannot. XCR rifles sold in Canada on the other hand, should be NR out of the box, since they come with an 18.6 inch barrel.

Thank you for your post. Much more informative than mine. I actually didn't know the "Micro" and "Mini" are registered as "Handguns". I thought they are just restricted firearms so I learned something and for that I thank you. I guess thinking about it I should have known given the available of "Pistol" magazines for the platforms. Cheers.

XCR-L and XCR-M are rifles. Barrel 18.5 and longer are non restricted. Less than 18.5 are restricted.

XCR-Mini is a pistol. As such it will always be a pistol regardless of barrel length. It is restricted for that reason. That is also why pistol mags exist for the brand.

Hey, no problem. It's usually a legal technicality that screws us over on some things, and in this case, it's no different. But, as you said, at least it gives us pistol mags for the platform.

Its all in the buttstock...or lack thereof! If they had a buttstock they would be classed as restricted rifles and no pistol mags for the XCR would exist. To the OP: gun store counters can be one of the worst places to learn anything. There are some knowledgeable ones but most are partially retarded. Last year I was told by one kid that there's no .223 cos its a military cartridge and its all being shipped to Afghanistan. There was no changing his mind, he believed it like Jesus told him in person. I'm sure we could sit here for days recounting all the horrible, dangerous and outright stupid things that have been said at the gun store counter but there's already a thread for that.
