The Ruger Amercian 30-06 as a hunting rifle?

Couldn't wait. Supposed to warm up tomorrow.

This old Leupold 6X38 fits just right, and will be plenty for anything one would hunt with an '06.

Now weighs in a pound heavier.

Good, no nonsense setup there, Ted. Hope you enjoy and it shoots well for you. :)

It's a bit of a sloppy target- I was checking tracking on the 6x scope on my Ruger American, and not paying enough attention dialled too close to a existing group/target. But the top 3 shots are the most recent group from my rifle. Not too bad for a budget gun and scope combo. :)

Somebody is wondering how the 208 gr LEDs shot in the American.

My testing came to a screeching halt a bit ago, eye surgery, cataract removal. All is well, amazing new vision, but no shooting for another couple of weeks.

Hope the recovery goes good, also I'm going to predict you will be pleased with the accuracy of this rifle. :)

:d Glad to hear the cataract surgery went well for you. As I mentioned, I had the same corrective procedure a while back. When I had the first eye done, the comparison of that with the other one, the difference was unbelievable!! The improvement in clarity and vividness of colour and the fine detail I could now see made me realise how bad my sight had become. Seeing the improvement, I couldn't get in fast enough to get the other one done :d:d.

So far, all is well. Thanks.

Two more weeks to go, and then back to the range. Will let you know then.

Glad to hear all went well with the cataract surgery. The improvement I've experienced after having the same corrective surgery is unbelievable. The only real caution/instructions I was given was to use sunglasses when it's very bright outside. No suggestions on waiting any significant period of time before getting back to the range.

Went to the range today, -18C and wind died down, so took advantage of that, quickly loaded a handful of rounds, and headed out.

More info will come shortly. My lovely wife of 51 years just told me our bear chili supper is on the table. :)

Okay, back here again. Went to the range just before 5:00 PM, bore sighted the rifle on a target someone had left up at 25 yards, and took two shots to sight in dead-center.

Set up a target at 100, and took two more shots. They are almost touching.

Not much more to say, other than it was cold enough, and my fingers were burning. Obviously the rifle is going to shoot well, which is what most of you predicted.

Oh, and the load was a using few of the old original 150 gr Winchester Silvertips I had laying around from forty years ago. Not bad for a hunting bullet ahead of 60 gr Win760 and Federal 215 magnum primers. Velocity was probably around 3000 fps.

Recoil was as expected for a medium/light outfit.

The 208 gr Hormady ELDs will be next.
