The SEALS pick the Glock 19. (merged)

I don't 'like' Glocks, but the G19 is one of the most size efficient 15 shot 9mm pistols available, tough as nails, reliable.
They are accurate enough.

I enjoy shooting my Walthers more, but still wish they were as compact as the G19.

I think they made an excellent choice.

And the real reason..... Cost....

Buy two glocks for the price of one sig....

Nothing wrong with either.

Where can I get a deal like that? Last I knew, Glocks and SIGs were within about 15% the same price, with a prestige markup for SIGs because of the SEAL thing.

Oh boy... Where to start ?

The more bad guys not using Glocks, rhe more you win ? Whats your gamer tag ?!?!

I've never really heard many positive things said about the XD,heard some serious design and manufacturing flaws though. I'm curious about what department issued Glocks and Sigs.

There's a couple reasons for the swap:
The 19 is widely in use already in JSOC.
Cost- the switch to the 19 does away with the current mix of 226's & 239's.
The Sig contract was up.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell.

I think even the mighty black-budget Navy SEALs still answer to tier 1 accountants. The military is a business first and fore-most.

Because the Canadian glock 19 include the cost of an additional barrel to convert it to restricted.

civilian purchases and government contracts are different things. Often the product is darn near given away in favour of the very lucrative parts and maintenance contracts.

This guys reasons for why the SEALS adopted the glock misses the main reason any government makes decisions - MONEY. Glocks are relatively cheap. Have at 'er SEALS. Can't believe anyone in their right mind would put a Sig down for a glock.

SOF gets what SOF wants...

If they wanted to save money the SEALs would of been issued M9 beretta's.

Glock has afew advantages over SIG.

Absolutely, SEALs and similar groups pick the best and no one contests it. Among the weapons they use, handguns are going to be the about the least expensive they use.

I doubt that price is a factor USSOCOM has an enormous budget, probably bigger than the entire Canadian Forces budget

That's funny - individual SEALs don't "pick" anything - they, like others, get what they're given for a job, and make it work. There are a bunch of 'upstream' folks making the "what" decision, and a bunch of further upstream people making the "where" and the "when" decisions. Possibly the decision was made by a Colonel somewhere who's up for retirement in a year, and needs a gig after he's done. Don't laugh.

You can't shoot Sig226 under water. Glock you can. Seal Teams have been using Glocks for several years unit purchase. SIG are ok for law enforcement applications, not for tactical. SA pistols are quicker for trigger reset and more accurate for multiple targets and multiple firing. Shot both, issued both, Glock is better. XD is even better ... new strike fire H&K 9 wow. But Glock in the elements outperforms. The more badguys not using Glocks, the more I win.

Seriously??? Oh yeah, I guess that's why all those police forces and tier one mil units have adopted them - oh, wait a minute...

Weapons are trailed by SEALs and the best one is picked based on many factors. Unlike the regular troops, SOF operators have a huge say in what gets picked.

Cheap and reliable still apllied, why not get something that has the same performance and cheap.
