The SEALS pick the Glock 19. (merged)

May have to jump on the glock bandwagon now. Just wondering though, why they'd not be using a more manly cartridge like the 45 perhaps.

Because 9mm gets the job done, and they don't have the need to compensate for any deficiencies in their manhood by using a .45.

Lol. Well, Mark, these days there are men so secure in their manhood that they squat to pee and wear tutus too! This is an armament issue, so there's no need to bring the social justice warriors, the bed wetters and the lavender mob into this.

The Glock is fine for soccer moms, mall cops and gun club duffers - but those guys will be going into the brown stuff. Elite forces should carry elite weapons in more potent calibres. There's tons of better polymer guns out there.

So the Seals don't know what they're doing and don't know what works?

Some people on this thread should come on over to SOCNET and have a chat with actual Navy SEALs and get their take on this. The conversation on this exact subject is going a little differently there.

As somebody else mentioned earlier, who would pick a Glock 19 over a SIG 226....nobody. I would suggest there was more into the reasoning for buying the Glock than price, accuracy or reliability.

Take Care

Bob

I would. Lighter and smaller pellet launcher. Seems like a no-brainer to anyone who actually has to carry their kit around.

Can't understand why SEALs wouldn't go for a 10mm auto like a Glock 20 or 40. This a versatile cartridge that can be uploaded or downloaded. I would imagine that when a SEAL really has to fire, they would need to put a big hurt on the target and nothing in a semi beats 10mm auto. And cost is low, and the number of operators is relatively low, so dollar cost is peanuts compared to other costs. Just don't get it..

The seals seem to get it.

Someone who is already carrying 80+ lbs of gear, most of which is more mission critical than a sidearm?
Someone who is looking for a more easily concealed weapon which still retains full size capacity?
Someone who wants interoperability and parts support from units already in theatre/fleet (Marsoc), though a case can be made for the Sig as USN Aviation issues Sigs?
And on that note, aircrew who undergo significant G. Every bit of weight that can be shed adds up quickly at 7.5x.

Just my thoughts. Opinions vary.

Bam...this.
Too bad this didn't appear before 14 pages of silliness.......

I would love to know what the procurement process was. I am betting some back room wheeling and dealing and some inside baseball was involved. There usually is in stuff like this. I wouldn't say 'they don't know what they're doing' so much...I would say rather that they could have done better. The Glock is great for soccer moms, mall cops and gun club duffers like Yours Truly...but elite warriors should carry elite guns. They are certainly qualified to do so.
