The SEALS pick the Glock 19. (merged)

Unless things have changed JTF2 still uses the Sig 226R & replacement strategy is in the works .

Last time I was near them in 2015 they where all rocking sigs p226.

I spoke with CSOR members last summer that came on base and after asking he told me that they tried a few pistols. M&P, P320 etc... He told me they where pushing for the G17 but DND is asking for a possible thumb safety... lol

Yes we both had our facepalm faces.

Nothing wrong with a thumb safety like a 1911 or M&P. It does not effect time or speed and helps you with control muzzle rise by using it like a gas pedal.

The Glock Safe Action trigger was so that a thumb safety would not be needed. Carrying Condition 1 adds another element of training that must be trained into the shooter. Glocks have been around for 30 years without a thumb safety and have been just fine. Adding one would be like reinventing the wheel.

You probably dont know that you can get Glocks with a thumb safety.

not factory you cant..... yes there where "some" made for Austrian military trials of 1982 (none where ever made again).... other then that all there is is aftermarket kits, most notably cominolli kits. but reliability suffers.... defiantly not something an "operator" would install vs just using another pistol designed for it if it where that necessary.

to quote a great movie.....

I have a stupid thumb safety on my M&P 22. It's worthless on a strike fire pistol and just adds an unwanted protrusion. In a rough and tumble combat situation, it would be an actual hazard because it might get clicked on accidentally and that would be something you'd have to train for.

Incorrect, Glock also produced some for the UK MOD trials, but the UK now use the standard 17. They also made some for the SOCOM trial that ended up being cancelled, I believe that was a 21. They produced some for the Tasmanian Police, who insisted on an external safety for their gun initially, but eventually went to the standard 17. I also recall something similar for the police in Portugal. There have probably also been a couple of others that I have forgotten. There were a number of variations, including different markings, and even a cross bolt safety. I'm a life member of the Glock Collectors Association for what it's worth.

Not if you're using it how you're suppose to. Ala 1911.

I get that but look at the HK VP9 test by military arms.... It's a piece of sh#t, so let's say your in a firefight and you have to dive into water in order to save your life, and water gets into the striker assembly your f#ck sev n ways to Sunday were as something like a sig wouldn't be as bad

Can you elaborate on the hk sfp testing you speak of? also does anyone know if the seals officially tested these and or the hk p30 or what folks herein think of either of these for the seals? just a bit of fun to talk about.

True facts, but they are not available to joe public, a trials basis only, which means they are not an option.

I was commenting more on the fact that Glock can and has produced guns from the factory with a variety of safeties, for various military trials (In Tasmania, they were actually issued, and carried for a while before they saw sense, and got regular ones instead), so that if the SEALs felt they needed it, Glock would certainly produce it. You know what would probably happen if the SEALs went in that direction though? Everyone would want one, because if the SEALs need it...

The M&P 22 is hammer fired, not striker fired and needs the thumb safety. The only other safety feature is the articulated trigger. But, it is stupid to have the thumb safety on the FS M&P. But, I've never heard of anyone in Canada actually owning one.

Yeah you got me on the hammer thing, darned if I wasn't misled when I bought it. But the safety is not required or desired by moi.

interesting results thanks .. I like the mac lads... seemed too easy for him to find a few fail points. although still it's a great shooter in regular conditions he said more or less. doubt true operators would have a hard time reproducing the results. I wonder what a SEAL actually really truly says about this brand vs brand stuff, what's really important to them. I kind of don't want to know, let then keep their mysterious edge maybe :)

Firstly, it's SEAL, not seal. Secondly, if you want some idea what some of them think, go to SOCNET, and ask. Just remember, it's their house, so be respectful, and make sure to capitalize SEAL.
