The Secret of the SKS

90% of the time it is the shooter.

I agree, I went today to shoot oh man I was horrible, then again its my fault.
I had a fiberforce stock with receiver mount, bad combo, scope too long, red dot requires a lot of modification to satisfy my own shooting.

basically the real secret is, keep it stock and practice shooting it.

I was working with a very long range sniper rifle with my uncle years ago.. (his VN era specialist sniper rifle).. and while he could take the #### off a #### roach at insane ranges.. others there (mil range) couldn't hit the ####ing broad side of the planet with the same gun.

Therefore :agree: in spades.

Ya I had a blast trying to sight mine in, only took like 80 shots to hit a 8x12 piece of paper at 80 yards haha got to love that sighting tool that doesn't fit that good lol.

Yeah, my friend's wife took at turn at mine and nailed the target 3 for 3 at 200 yards. Of course she's probably shot more ammo than he and I combined. But I still scored some decent hits at 100 yards. And yes, the ejected cases flying around were hilarious.
And the secret of SKS club is I must say a pretty poor secret. Right up there with Area 51 and number stations. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I put about 500 rounds through the SKS this weekend. I must say that I don't believe the stories about them being inaccurate!

I was shooting Shot Shell Hulls at 25 yards (max range distance for now...) with out any problem. Went four for four on my first try!

Man they are fun guns. My buddy was shooting his Rem. 700 .308 next to me, I was defiantly having more fun then he was! :p

I was thinking of getting a sks to. One with a tapsco stock. Only problem is my range doesnt allow anything over .223, so even if i buy it i won't be able to shoot it? Are you allowed to shoot sks's on crown land?

The other great thing about these rifles is the ammunition. The steel cases are not reloadable, are worthless, so there is no need to waste time picking them up after you have run through lots of them.

;)

Picking up the spent casings is a respect issue at any range. Nobody wants their local gun clubs looking like a battle zone.

(In hushed tones) You aren't supposed to say how much you enjoy shooting any gun or else people will think you're nutz! Etiquette, you know + it's a Canadian thing to shrug these things off! :)

Pick up the casings! I take about 120 rounds with me to the range, and stop picking up at about 400.

At some ranges people see you take out your SKS and automatically assume you're an A-hole. Why confirm the assumption?

why is it the most irresponsible shooters at our range are sks shooters? They are almost exclusively the ones that don't pick up the brass, leave the holy fire extinguishers for others to pick up, and blast at steel at close range sending shrapnel in all directions. Have never had to speak to any other shooters at the range other than the sks crowd to one be more careful....safe, and courteous. Don't let the excitement intefere with reponsible shooting. Having one pointed at you while loaded due to uneducated shooters is NOT fun. OF course this applies only to a few but the few seem to be exclusive to the sks crowd.

Don't blame the GUN.. blame the PERSON.

Otherwise you're acting the same as Jack and Wendy about the Mini-14

I've seen worse than that from LEO's on the range for that matter never mind the old farts waving a shotgun around aimlessly.

Spend hours at the range, seen plenty of aweful stuff from many folks, was just speaking about a small portion of the sks crowd, which by the way does tend to be worse, its the one gun that brings an user attitude with it that few other guns do

Maybe due to the 'newbie' factor since it is cheap to get and cheaper ammo?

could be and a high level of excitement as they are undeniably fun to shoot. Still guys need to be a lot more anal about safety than they are and pick up the damn casings, no big deal.

True.. but someone has to explain it nicely.. and then not so nicely.. and if they still don't get it boot em.

As for the casings pickin em up is common sense and common courtesy IMO.

Where are all you guys from? Im just reaching a one year of being a firearms owner and challenged the PAL. SKS was my first rifle and never once have I swept anyone with a loaded rifle, teach all my guest proper raqnge ediquette and use the utmost safety. The thing people have to remember is that there are a TON of stupid people on this planet, and if someone is doing something stupid and dangerous they should be scorned harshly, its alot better than killing someone accidentaly. BUT.... I ask where you guys live, cause at my range we're just supposed to sweep all the casings off the cement floor into the gravel ahead.
