The SIG Pro. Worth it?

I'm looking at pistols, and so far the only thing I can definitively say I do NOT want is a Glock (worst grip EVER), but two front-runners seem to be the SIG brand and the Smith & Wesson M&P. Comparing the M&P to a P226 isn't exactly apples to apples, but what are everyone's thoughts on the SIG Pro? Any reliability issues with it or anything at all? Or should I do my best to snatch one up?

Not a big fan of the MP myself. Love the Glocks, but only own one compared to my 2 sig's.

The biggest difference is cost.

Sig = expensive
MP = cheap

If you don't mind dishing out the extra cash, get a Sig, than you can sell it later on and buy 2 Glocks!.

I own a S&W M&P .40, have fired the 9mm and .45 cal M&P's also....
As fire as sig I've fired the P226...

I love my M&P,,thousands of rounds no problems.....I don't know what a SIG pro goes for but at $649 a M&P is hard to beat for both quality and affordability...

I wanted so badly to approve of the Glock. After my first less-than-stellar experience with a G17, I went and tried it again, just in case I could get myself to like the thing. No dice. It's not even the size of the grip, but the shape as well.

I love my Glock; the grip suits me fine.

why not just get the Steyr isn't that what you want?

between M&P and sig pro I'd go with M&P, cheaper and looks better than the Sig...I had 0 problems with my MP9

If I were you I'd handle (if better shoot) them all and then deside...

It is, but this is my backup choice. Haha.

Steyr is not exactly the most reliable pistol out there (you, of all people, should know that :D)
The one I had didn't like my reloads but worked fine with factory ammo(Win, Rem, Fed.). I sold it after I handed M&P at a store that also had a Steyr in stock. No regrats... but I almost sold my M&P not too long ago :eek: as well :redface:

phatns2pid, if you want I can post pros and cons for each gun (M9A1 and M&P)…

I shot G17 several times, wanted to buy one but always gave myself some excuse NOT to buy one because of the ass looking. Anyhow taste of gun changed overtime and just two weeks before X'mas, I shot another G17 which belong to a Abby club member and I bought one after that. Glock still Ass looking, the flame is quite cheap made; trigger is stuffy but it just shoot good:confused:. The Sig SP2022 is one hell of nice hot looking gun, a little big for its size but talk to be one of the best trigger pull plastic gun out there.

Trigun

Its a factory barrel made just for canada, pokes out a bit but still looks good, ill try and get you a pic.

Cool, looking forward to it. I notice the frame is made in Germany... does that mean the slide is from SIGArms in the US?

That's a nice offer of you! I'm sure a number of people would be interested if, you care to weigh in. I'll be finding about the M9-A1 in a few days when mine arrives, though. In my short time with the M&P it basically felt like a nicer Glock.

no problem....:)

Steyr pros:
Good quality polymer frame and internals
Removable rails and trigger mechanism
Can accept a shoulder stock! (I made one myself)
Really easy to take apart (same as 92FS!)
Good ergonomis, but may not fit everyone (I didn't like how it made my trigger finder point downwards when holding/shooting the gun)

Edited to add;
great sights
good trigger

Steyr cons;
Week slide finish
No firing pin safety
Could be unreliable with reloads
Some guns have erratic ejection (at first)
Sights can be hard to get used to
Inconsistent trigger (kinda)
Extended factory barrel looks ugly IMO

M&P pros:
Better slide finish
Mine has been 100% even with reloads
Interchangeable back straps
IMO looks better (esp. with out beavertail and with polished slide)

M&P cons:
Frame /rail quality rails could be better
Use of roll pins in frame
Can’t use a shoulder stock with the gun
Not as easy to take apart as some guns.

I own a SIG P226 in 9mm and I've been nothing but impressed with it. Very simple to tear down, clean, and put back together. They're a little heavier than some pistols but I'm also not a small person so I like that. The grips could be better IMO, shooting single handed I find my right thumb tends to find the mag release (and push it on occasion). It needs to be recessed a little better.

I've shot the SIG Pro, 226, and 220 that Shoot Edge in Calgary has and that's what got me into SIGs in the first place. They're solid and shoot well and they're simple (ie no safeties, if you don't want it to shoot then don't pull the trigger. They way I like them. I obviously don't carry or leave it loaded so I don't need the extra safeties). Oh, and at $750 for the referbed ones that Shooting Edge was selling I couldn't pass one up for that price. LR
