The Sig Sauer P320 has been selected by the US Army to replace the Beretta M92 (M9) currently in service.

Sig Sauer Inc., Newington, New Hampshire, was awarded a $580,217,000 firm-fixed-price contract for the Modular Handgun System including handgun, accessories and ammunition to replace the current M9 handgun.

Bids were solicited via the Internet with nine received. Work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of Jan. 19, 2027.

Army Contracting Command, Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey, is the contracting activity (W15QKN-17-D-0016).

(EDITOR’S NOTE: Sig Sauer beat out Glock Inc., FN America and Beretta USA, the maker of the current M9 9mm service pistol, to win this contract. The Army did not offer any details about what caliber the new Sig Sauer pistol will be. The actual weapon is the Sig Sauer P320.)

Some misinformation here. Glocks in use with SOF were a stop gap measure until this program was done. Those in the "know" have known that the Army SF (CAG included) are moving away from the Glock for a long time.

Before the Glock lovers start to shed tears keep in mind that the Glock is an excellent pistol. These are just the facts.

Not to be argumentative, as I'm far from being in the know, but where is the source of your information?
I have no issues with the Glock nor the SIG. In fact, I agree they are both capable firearms.
Just looking for clarification. Thanks!

And that's why the both the Navy and Marine SOCOM units JUST announced their adoption of the Glock 19, so they can now dump them for another gun???

It's been long said for the people in the know that ussoccom just wanted hi point to get their factory squared away so they can now dump the glocks for all the hi points.

They don't. There was a picture of one at shot show that showed a slide safety on one that may have been a request by the military. Sig offers a tabbed trigger safety but that's all. No manual safety on the p320

So if the US Army goes with the slide mounted safety then they really haven't progressed at all.
