So yesterday Dec 20, I finally got my M14 back from the local gunsmith just in time for the end of the world. I had him "cold blue" coat my rifle and I just wanted to show you guys how she looks like now.
So this is her striped down to show the "blued' finished parts.
We can see how the gunsmith did a fine job making those "tool mark" swirls most Norc M14 are notorious for, disappear and all she has now is a smooth blue skin.
Upon close up we can still see stuff that looks like rust in the crevices but is actually "sediment" from the "bluing tank", these were deal with a q-tip dipped with CLP and wiped down.
I also did my part on the original Norinco stock by spray painting it with flat black Krylon Fusion Textured plastic paint just to give it a more rough surface almost similar to the Springfield M1A synthetic stock.
Paint dried but still taped.
Tape removed, notice I have also replaced the metal butt plate and installed a rubber butt pad similar to what the M1A has.
Upon re-assembly, I installed a recoil buffer from Buffer Tech and replaced the rod spring guided with a round one from S&J Hardware.
...and now the fusion of stock and rifle!
Mag on...
.....mag off
....and the final touch of the "coolification" process - wrapping her up with OD green cam tape by Web Tex.
Without sling....
.......with sling.
...and some more close ups together with a deep blued Taiwanese made mag from KeepShooting.com, these we a gift to me by my American father-in-law and they are actually 20 rounders that I had to pin myself to make them legal 5 rounders.
So today 21 Dec (failed end of the world), I took her out to the range for a quick zeroing shoot, and yeah I said quick because the gunfire sound could alert and attract zombies towards where I was!

First 2 rounds didnt hit the gong so I had to stop and re-adjust elevation. One stoppage on the standing position dammit!

...and finally heres my lousy attempt of a CQB shoot using an M14, really sloooow but at least no stoppage, overall I am happy with my "coolified" rifle.
