So I've been bitten by the SKS bug, I've bought two so far, and enough ammo to invade a small bananna producing nation...
First was a Marstar Chinese Army surplus (Unforuntately only bought a few weeks before they starting offering them for $75) second, was a refurb russian from TradeEx...
Didn't appreciate exactly what sort of shape the Chinese army surplus models were in until I received the second one... I knew it was functionally "new", but it was (in my oppinion) decently manufactured as well, very few tool marks, all components operated very smoothly... versus my second SKS, all sorts of tool marks (I'm not a machinist by trade, but I do end up doing a moderate amount of metal work, and having a fair bit more done for me... I shudder at the mess left from milling on my russian SKS) not to mention the mess I presume was left from removing rust during refinishing... the action need to be worked a few dozen times to loosen up, and I still need to yank on the mag release good and hard to get it to open.... but still quite a functional action...
Within the next month or so, I've budgeted for a second chinese SKS, and a laminated stock russian (current one is hardwood), and probably a second gun safe to fit them all...
The question is, what's next? Aside from russian/chinese SKS's, what's my best source domestically for somthing else? I realise the cost is going to go up for other nationalities, but I'm figuring I should be able to find somthing in the $300 range?
I'm kicking myself in the rear for not picking up the Rasheed that was sold by one of the Canadian Gun Nutz vendors in a recent "used guns" posting... I realise it's not an SKS, and the only "commonality" is the round, but I'd be willing to include it in my collection, as it's a contemporary of the SKS, and looks similar with the same round...
