The cost of two SKS's, ammo and a few accessories really adds up!:

1. A very nice Russian "refurb" laminate SKS with all matching serial numbers, except force matched stock: ~ $304
2. A "hand picked, unfired" SKS -- on route from Ki11ercane, including NCStar scope kit and bipod: ~ $300 (includes shipping)
3. Tapco T-6 stock kit: $130 + tax
4. Spare unused SKS gas tube to use with Tapco kit -- on route from the Ukraine (eBay special) ~ $75

5. Metal 5-30 round magazine -- on route from Ki11ercane: ~ $75 (includes shipping)
6. SKS/AK Sight adjustment tool: ~ $16 (eBay special)
http://cgi.ebay.ca/UTG-AK-SKS-Sight-...46476698367759
7. Leather Sling: ~ $18 (eBay special)
http://cgi.ebay.ca/Yugo-59-66-Russia...item58882da82b
8. 1120 rounds of Czech ammo (circa 1990): ~ $200
9. Two 20 round boxes of Prvi Partizan soft point dear hunting ammo: ~ $50
10. Spare gas piston from Marstar: ~ $20

$1188 (plus a few extra dollars for taxes, a nice tip, etc.) :(

But, in the end, I will have one kick a$$ "tacticool" SKS and one nice, unaltered/original SKS. :)

(yes, I didn't need a leather sling, and perhaps I could have found better deals locally, but what the hell!)

That is a mere pittance compared to what I have spent on those fine Swedish rifles with their old world craftsmanship at Trade-Ex.

I think I am a charter member of their "Gun-of-the-Month Club!"

the joy it will bring you....

Priceless!!

Well, I wonder if you could convey that sentiment to my wife! Let's just say I've been "cut off" from any more spending until she gets a new bedroom suite! ;)

Considering I've only been an SKS owner for a 3 weeks, I think I'm well on my way to a few more SKS's -- especially since I want an non-refurbished original in excellent condtion!

Hehehe Well that's the zenith of collecting them. From different countries, original unissued. So far I have a Yugo, Russian, Tula and Izhevsk and a Chinese factory 26.

If your ammo is 1120ct its not circa 1990, its circa 1970

It says 1990 on the crate. Perhaps that was an inspection sticker? I'm not sure. Either way... its very good stuff... I've shot off 800+ rounds and had 11 or 12 duds. Not too bad!

Its also more accurate than people give it credit for! While I have not had any other brands to compare it to, except some soft point Prvi Partizan's which I haven't fired yet (saving those for a hunting trip), I am shooting up to 4-5 inch groupings at 100 yards with iron sights. I recently ordered a cheap-a$$ NCStar scope from Ki11ercane, so we will see if my groupings improve. I suspect not.

I you know of an honest seller that has an original unissued SKS (Russian or Albanian), please let me know. I will spend big $$ for the right piece.

umm... why would you need a spare gas piston?

And by the way, if you replace your gas piston, try to find a Yugo one - they are often chromed almost the whole length.

Because ultimately, if I go with a Tapco stock kit, metal mag, and spare gas tube and piston, the only original parts I'm using is the barrel assembly and the trigger assembly.

Off Goes the Refurb Shellac!

Since she has a refurb stock and is not really collectible, and because the stock refurb finish was the weak point of my SKS, I decided to strip it off and give her a few coats of tung oil. That's more like it.
