Funny to hear you say that 'cause the other day there was a guy with .338 at the range; when he pulled the trigger, the barrel exploded. I decided right then and there that absolutelly every gun chambered in.338 was garbage and the people who owned one were pedophiles, without exceptions.

LOL good one.

Well i bought a chinese sks a few years back i keep it clean and it has never rusted or malfuctioned. For my $150 and at 14 cents a shot it's alot of bang for your buck. Plus i can put them all in a 3" circle at 100m. When i want to plink this is my go to gun after one of my .22's

I like it enough i am considering buying a yugo model with nice wood and the blade bayonet.

Just my $0.02

sks crap

I would take a Kalashnikov over any Chinese made firearm, if it says "Made in China" then its not really any good. Just like the flood of Chinese made crap scopes on the market.
The sks is el cheapo but the 7.62x39 round in a nice Ruger bolt gun is worth having.:)

There's still Russian and Yugo models. (Romanian too, in the US)

I'm not gonna get into the "Chinese guns" arguement. One can of worms here is plenty.

Back when I still had my SKS-D, it was my 'all the time' gun.

Meaning, I took it up to the range 'all the time'. It was an awesome way to make a trip to the range worthwhile when I was running low on ammo for everything else.

The range I went to had 12"x12" gongs set up at 100 metre intervals from 300 up to 900 metres, and I could easily put 5 out of 5 on the gong at 300, occasionally flying the odd one.

Wish I still had it, actually. :(

I have a real Ruskie SKS and it's never jammed on me. That said, it also shoots minute of Volkswagen.

On the subject of the SKS's short tenure in the Russian military, it's odd in that it didn't even hit mass production until AFTER the AK was adopted. I read an interesting (and IMHO plausible) theory that they were intended to arm countries which were less politically reliable, whereas those that were got the AK.

Also, in terms of historical events post-Vietnam my SKS was given as aid to Egypt and Im sure it was used in the Yom Kippur war.

Cool, Nyles...that probably is true.

We can shoot em at gongs and bulls eyes and pop cans but they're made for hitting us. I'm a lot bigger than a pop can. And in the heat of a fight, who can really hit a pop can?

well, for what it's worth, i want one anyways, just cause you can own and shoot 1120 rounds+the actual gun for like 350$.

303carbine , your name shows your preference .
I got a #5 , its about as accurate as my SKS , but slower ( even with a reload ) . And to be honest , I had to put a scope on the #5 to get it there .
This guy's rifle screwed up because he let the chamber get rusty , probably from the ammo you like . Your bolt gun would have done the same thing with that ammo and a lack of cleaning .
The SKS is a great platform for the price and we are lucky to have it .
Ask someone with a M305 and see if they think Chinese guns are crap .
I think you'll have a hard time finding one .
Just because something is different and you don't understand it doesn't make it junk .
Are there better guns , you bet . Was it replaced , yes . All guns are , even the 303 was retired .

Wouldn't that make it Restricted?
No, not restricted. More like illegal... :p

I love my Norc SKS. I can hit small targets at huge distances with it... or was it huge targets at small distances?... anyway, it's a lot of fun for as cheap as you can get. They're easy to strip down and mine's very reliable. I just bought another one. ;)

The most common cause of a case seperation in the SKS is a corroded/rough chamber. Guaranteed to happen if not cleaned regularly. They are not chromed in any version.
The abruptness of cycling is not forgiving with a rough chamber.
A quick polish usually soves the problem.

Sounds like quite the merry gang of idiots at the range that day, 303carbine! Between you and your buddy, I'm surprised nobody got their toes blown off (among other things)!! If your meatball buddy has really had his SKS for years, he'd know that most of the ammo around (and in fact probably the very same ammo he loaded into it that fateful day) is corrosive and will rust any steel it touches if not cleaned properly (note; eos is right, there's no chrome in the chamber on any version, unless someone took it upon themselves to electroplate the chamber & throat on their particular rifle!). I agree with everyone else's diagnosis, the cause of the failure was cleaning-related, and/or the fact that your buddy has a neocortex the size of a BB

Actually I've changed my mind! You're right 303carbine, all SKS's are crap, next time you see one you should buy it and send it to me for proper disposal. Keep doing this with every SKS you find, eventually we'll rid the country of these horrible garbage rifles!!

*everyone shut up, he might actually go for it!*
