Was at the range last week with an SVT-40 i pick up from Ryan at SFCR and after redoing the wood cleaning up all the gaz system, went and put 200 S&B 180 gr SP tru it, gaz set up on 1.3... No hiccup or FTF, this is just a great semi, with low recoil, great metallic sight and very decent accuracy 2.5 inch @ 100 metres, show your SVT-40...JP.w:h:

I have one sitting in the safe I haven't shot yet! Can't wait! I'm going to buy some of the non-corrosive to shoot through her though. I clean my sks's enough with corrosive :p

I celebrated the demise of the LGR by buying a
1941 Finnish-capture SVT-40.
Probably will be able to shoot it next week some time.
Very much looking forward to it.

Cool looking rifle.

I find it remarkably finicky to disassemble/assemble for a military rifle. May be i'm missing something.

This is a decoration it is not the target of the SVT i did not bring any back, another one for rehab... JP.

BULLs**t , the targets you have small holes , those are not 7.62(30cl) sized holes, more like 22cal 25 yard.

If you looked closer, you can see that some of the targets have 6.5 x 55 marked on them and at no time did the OP claim that they were his SVT's targets. An simple apology would be appropriate right about now, and would show all that you have the balls to admit that you were out of line and you were WRROOOOONGGG.

I'd say you're doing pretty good. I get about 1 1/2 inches at 50 yards with my SVT40, but it gets worse at 100 yards because of my vision. The gun is capable of shooting less than a 3 inch group at 100 yards but my eyes won't do it consistently.

Its louder than hell if you go hunting, make sure you use ear plugs.

Where the f*** did you find that. I am on the hunt.

Here's my 1940 Tula, still one of my favorites in my collection. A real head turner at the range, and accurate as hell too!

Nice piece, since i have a lot of brass and about 200 .312 174 gr bullets i will reload some tonight, got my dyes today for 7.62X54r... JP.;)

Will know pretty soon got them hanloads ready minutes ago, went with 47 gr of Varget, that should get me going around 2700 fps, will bring the Oehler to check... JP.

I've found that .312 works better in Everything 7.62x54r; mosins, m44s, svt...

Considering that the bore diameter of soviet mosin's is supposed to be .311, it makes sense. Of course many of them run larger; up to as mush as .314 in a lot of cases. (This is before being shot out) My Мосина has a .314 bore.

The S&B ammo i bought from SFRC was .312 and it shot pretty good so i expect good accuracy as simply duplicate the factory ammo, Varget should be very easy on the gaz system, guess i will have to adjust the gaz system a 1.2 maybe as i am in full throotle load here... JP.

Most of my loading is trying to match the 150grain surplus ammo. I use .312 Hornady 150gr SP with about 53 grains of IMR 4350 for about 2600 fps. I'm still adjusting the load, and although it works really well I'm trying to find the best average for all my guns that shoot this cartridge.

Just some added info on Russian 7.62 rifles, including the SVT40: I have some rifles with larger bores, but they are not shot out, simply machined bigger but still have strong rifling. If someone is concerned they have a rifle that is shot out, just slug the first 6 or 8 inches from the chamber and push it back out the way it came in. THis slug measurement will differ from the slug pushed through the entire barrel.

Having said all this, some of the heavier rounds that are sold by places like Westrifle such as the 203gr soft point from LVE shoots extremely well, however a different gas adjustment if using svt40. I've tried the 203gr soft points in MFS with pretty good results but a bit behind the LVE from my shooting/groupings. I've used both for hunting and can bang flop a deer on just about every second shot.
